Viper’s Daughter is the long-awaited sequel to the Wolf Brother series and to the delight of ardent fans it turns out to be the first in a trilogy! Why not pin me to read later? Here are some stone age survival techniques your children can try at home, from a workshop we attended a few years ago, and you can read about the time I went snow hole digging in Scotland– the nearest I’ve come to one of Michelle’s own investigative expeditions. Mammuts, Ice Caves & Magic

Whispering Stories was established in 2015. The blog is here to share our love of books and the bookish world, alongside our other passions in life. We are based in the UK.The sequel finds Torak once again battling demons (literally and figuratively) on a quest to save Renn who has mysteriously disappeared. After six similar storylines (think Star Wars), the series could have been in danger of becoming formulaic but Michelle’s wolf-like nose for storytelling and faith in extravagant adventures results in yet another fresh, exciting and inspiring tale. That said, only a tiny bit of all this research finds its way into the finished book: I don’t want to slow it down! Viper’s Daugher is an adventure. The little bits of research are there make the reader feel he or she is living the adventure with Torak, Renn and Wolf. I was excited to see that the eighth book in the series will be published in 2021. Can you give us any clues about what’s going to happen? Viper’s Daughter, by acclaimed author and Guardian Children’s Fiction prizewinner, Michelle Paver, is a children’s historical adventure fiction– is that a genre?! – of epic proportions, set in the snow-bound, far north clan-lands of Scandinavia 6,000 years ago. Born in Malawi to a Belgian mother and a father who ran the tiny ‘Nyasaland Times’, Michelle moved to the UK when she was three. She was brought up in Wimbledon and, following a Biochemistry Degree from Oxford University, she became a partner in a big City law firm. She gave up the City to follow her long-held dream of becoming a writer.

I was fascinated by so many of the inventions throughout the story, the weapons and clothing especially – and it’s a testament to your meticulous research just how evocative and informative the story is. I loved the fact that Torak uses a strip of birch bark for an eye shield! How did you discover all these fascinating Stone Age facts and do you have a favourite? How difficult is it to balance all these aspects: the authenticity of the ancient past and the characters’ relationship and mindset? Perfect for children in UKS2 and KS3, this is a fantastically unique fantasy story which speaks to heart, mind, body and soul. A story in the vein of the greatest and oldest adventure epics, and importantly, one that raises many pertinent questions for our own life and times. I shall certainly be seeking out the other books in this series, such was the excellence of this one.” Do you have any book recommendations for primary school teachers who are teaching their children about the Stone Age?

I wrote it both for existing fans of the Wolf Brother books and for new readers who want a rich, immersive adventure in an entirely different world. And I do mean adventure! As with the other Wolf Brother books, my aim is to make the reader unable to put it down.

Viper’s Daughter is the seventh book in the award-winning series that began with Wolf Brother, selling over 3 million copies in 36 territories. Like them it can be read as a standalone story. Viper’s Daughter is an astoundingly rich, immersive and thrilling adventure that utterly gripped me from start to finish, skilfully drawing me into the Stone Age world with characters I adored, feared and feared for. This is a stunning masterpiece of powerful, evocative storytelling at its absolute best: it swept me into the world, enthralled me, emotionally drained me but, ultimately, left me wholly satisfied.” Michelle’s detailed investigation brings to life everything about the ancient culture of the story; the foods they eat, how they cook, their clothes, hunting techniques, the shelters they build. If you want to tie things together, you might make a piece of string. Torak and Renn would do this out of nettles (this is a piece I made earlier), or they could make a whole bag. This is a small one, this was made by Aborigines in Australia out of plant fibres, but you could make as big a one as you liked. When she mysteriously disappears, Torak and Wolf brave the Far North to find her. At the mercy of the Sea Mother and haunted by ravenous ice bears, their quest leads them to the Edge of the World. There they must face an enemy more evil than any they’ve encountered… Outdoor Mum, lover of nature& the wild, and parent of a childhood cancer survivor. I LOVE being outdoors & have experienced the benefits of nature & the wild during serious illness. I wanted a simple set-up that would appeal both to existing fans of the Wolf Brother books, and readers completely new to them. That’s why I kept the focus on Torak, Renn and Wolf: on the bonds of love and trust between them, and on how these are tested in the story. When she mysteriously disappears, Torak and Wolf brave the Far North to find her. At the mercy of the Sea Mother and haunted by ravenous ice bears, their quest leads them to the Edge of the World. There they must face an enemy more evil than any they’ve encountered.

Without giving too much away, can you tell us about VIPER’S DAUGHTER, the seventh book in your award-winning series? It’s clear that the wingsuit looks very different from the original Titan, but it still has its engines and missiles. In the first part of the video, we witness Valkyrie as she swiftly flies towards her enemy and uses her missile launchers while still in the air. Assuming she’s using Skyward, this scene promises a great range, speed, and high mobility in flight. It also confirms the possibility to use Cluster Missile while in the air. Viper’s Daughter is set in the Stone Age, in the forests of the northern hemisphere, about Torak, a boy, Renn, a girl, and Wolf – a Wolf! This is the seventh book in a series of nine, I’ve read the whole book in about ⅔ of a day (it arrived yesterday!) Caroline’s excitement at the prospect of the ongoing story has been palpable ever since; Michelle Paver’s writing really does have this effect. Viper’s Daughter by Michelle PaverOh, and the other big news? The entire Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series is to be made into a TV series. It’s going to be epic! Meeting the ‘Real’ Torak Good news for those who are dying to know more about Apex Legend Valkyrie abilities you'll have to play with. Thanks to the legacy launch trailer and several Apex Legends dataminers we've got some early info on Valkyrie’s passive, tactical, and ultimate skill. The descriptions from the dataminers seem to fit with the abilities displayed in the legacy trailer, but bear in mind that some of the details may still change before the launch: What really comes across in the book is the characters’ respect for and awe of nature. How do you think our relationship with the natural world has changed?
