Melanie Golding is a graduate of the MA in creative writing program at Bath Spa University, with distinction. There is no evidence of what Lauren saw, and no else saw of heard anything other Lauren shouting, something niggles at Harper to stay on this case despite there being not apparent case at all. The doctors seem eager to medicate Lauren into a stupor and the police just don’t want the expense of spending more time on the case than needed. The eventual climax is a heartbreaking ordeal which no mother wishes to experience and just when we think it’s over, Melanie Golding hits us with another twist and the story goes in a different direction. Little Darlings is exactly the type of mystery/thriller I love to read, containing just a touch of the paranormal and enough creepiness to push this one into almost horror territory.

Sunset is Danny’s legitimate daughter, but she hates the luxury lifestyle, the constant photoshoots. Let’s be clear, there’s no way I could have read this novel when I was a new mom—it’d be too disturbing, and I’d be waaaaay too freaked out. The early chapters start this book off with a bang as the narration takes the reader through visceral details of Lauren giving birth to the twins.

But she knows what she saw: that night, in her hospital room, a woman tried to take her babies and replace them with her own…creatures. Melanine Golding headed up each chapter with a folk tale, myth or fairytale around changelings – some were a lot more creepy than others. He can be a firm character occasionally, but he shows care for Destiny when she succeeds, and even becomes ever so slightly emotional after her beautiful singing. Destiny is marked second to last place, because she's new and isn't part of any of the local gangs, the Flat boys and the Speedos.

Finally, her husband Patrick has had enough, persuading Lauren that she has to start going out and seeing people again, which would help get her back into the normal routine of life. But you know what kids actually love emotional turmoil in small doses in controlled fictitious settings.Once she leaves hospital, her fears don’t dissipate and things really ramp up when her babies are abducted. Little Darlings is a debut that feels like a debut, but I enjoyed enough of its elements that I would probably give this author another try in the future. I obviously had empathy for Lauren when it came to her husband and the fear she would have felt over losing her babies, but you can have sympathy for a situation even if you don’t like the person. Wilsons illustrations are based on magazine style headlines and formation which gives it that celebrity glamorous feel. The book is quite UNIQUE because , i never read a book like this before i dont want to give too much away but destiny is going to meet her dad in a very unusual way….

And when ir read it for a second time, I thought I might have grown out of the story as the characters are younger than me, but I loved them all the same.In terms of this being a mystery thriller, the story actually takes quite a predictable path, so what you think is happening at the start is exactly what it turns out to be, however, it’s also ambiguous and leaves the reader asking questions. Compulsive, creepy, and inspired by some of our darkest fairy tales, Little Darlings will have you checking—and rechecking—your own little ones. Sunset was a wonderful sister to her siblings and it was sad to see her being the responsible one and trying to fix things. It felt like a quick read, and looking back on it I sometimes wonder what even happened in the book.
