Description

They are used in the aerospace, automotive, dental, metal sculpting, and metal smith industries; to name but a few. When combined with the right attachment, die grinders are capable of doing a wide variety of different tasks. Die grinders are primarily meant to work with metal (specifically for Tool and Die making). But one can also use them on other, more sensitive materials like plastic and wood. Die grinder with mounted point grinding wheel and carbide burr. With a die grinder and the right attachment on the end, you can polish, sand, cut, grind, or hone various materials. Obviously, this makes the die grinder useful in a lot of different circumstances, as I will show you later on in the guide. Likewise, I will also explain how the die grinder, like many other handheld tools, is separated into two different kinds based on their power source. Die Grinder Uses

Before ending this article, I want to look at some of the special bits and wheels that you can use on your die grinder. For most of my work, I use the straight die grinder because it’s more comfortable. If you find a right angle die grinder more comfortable to use for your job, then go for that kind instead. Power Sources Double-cut options have two intersecting sets of flutes. This allows for much smoother surfaces and cleaner finishes in both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, but is particularly good in softer metals like aluminium and mild steel, in addition to wood and plastics. Use double-cut bits in:They also make easy work of both hard and softwoods. Surpassed in outright hardness only by natural and synthetic diamonds, the bits exhibit substantially longer run times than comparable burrs optioned in HSS steel, won’t show signs of wear or metal fatigue due to high working temperatures, and can be used without issue at real high RPMs. Who Are They for? Helpful note: If the burs are chipping easily this could be due to the speed being too slow. However, it's ideal to start the cutting slowly, increasing the speed as you go along. Higher speeds will prevent clogging in the flutes of your burrs.

Have you ever heard of carbide burrs? Do you want to know which to go for between rotary burs or tungsten carbide? Are you curious to know the best between Tungsten Carbide burrs and HSS? Here in this article, we'll be taking a brief look at the difference between Tungsten Carbide burrs and the HSS. Besides, we'll also be revealing how to choose the best one to opt for between the two metal fabrication tools. Let's get started; Use a ball or spherical-shaped carbide burr to create concave cuts in your material or to shape and hollow out an area. Small carbide ball burrs from as tiny as 0.5mm in diameter are ideal for intricate carving projects. Many wood carvers, stone carvers and metal engravers use these carbide carving burrs in a hobby drill, micro motor or a high-speed handpiece. As we mentioned before, make sure to use a rotary handpiece that runs true. i.e with no wobble. Since the rotary polishing bits are round in cross-section, they are perfect for polishing holes and curved surfaces. I regularly use the mounted point polishing bits to clean and polish the die profiles. A unique wheel-shaped burr with a smooth top, round edges and fluted sides. Great for channel work and shaping. Countersink Burrs

Generally, a metal burr is manufactured from either high strength steel (HSS) or Tungsten Carbide. When working with metals only, tungsten carbide burrs are mostly preferable. This is due to their durability in handling several demanding jobs without wear or tear. The HSS burrs, on the other hand, have a reduced tolerance for heat. As a result, high temperature and pressure tend to soften the HSS tool. Compared to HSS, tungsten carbide burrs can last longer.
