Description

The Hi-ν Gundam, having used up all of its Fin Funnels, let go of the now useless Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher and switched to its beam rifle before heading for the Axis to confront Char. Sharply detailed and molded in color, this snap-fit kit of Amuro Ray’s last piloted Mobile Suit in “Char’s Counterattack” features polycap-jointed articulation and is fully equipped with two types of beam sabers, a beam rifle, a new hyper bazooka, and of course, its distinctive fin funnels that are detachable from its back and can be set in firing mode. The Real Grade version seems to take inspiration from the previous designs, combining the overall appearance and proportions of Izubuchi's original design, with the blue color scheme and silver trim from the second design that is used for the first Master Grade and the High Grade model kits.

Following the release of Izubuchi's new interpretation, its visual appearance has sometimes been featured as a combination of both the original CCA-MSV art and the official setting rendition in merchandise format and video game appearances. The Nu Gundam is finally offered in Bandai's HGUC line, and what a superb kit this turned out to be! Sadly, the lack of testing would easily been shown when, during one skirmish, Amuro's panicking caused his fin funnels to react, forcing Gyunei Guss to kill his captive, Kayra Su.

The Hi-ν Gundam carried 6 Fin Funnels, mounted on the backpack's funnel racks in a wing-like formation. Amuro uses it in many strategic ways, such as fooling enemies that he was shot down by leaving the shield and the New Hyper Bazooka, and attacking enemies once they lower their guards. This is the first game since Super Robot Wars Alpha 2 to features the showdown between Hi-ν Gundam and Sazabi.

However, Amuro soon realized that since both the Psycho Doga and the Hi-ν Gundam were developed by Anaheim Electronics, Char must have known about the Hi-ν Gundam's performance and felt disappointed, so he left behind the Psycho Doga, hoping that Amuro would use it to improve the Hi-ν Gundam so he can defeat him in a fair fight. The manual of the MG 1/100 kit, released in December 2000, even listed the protrusion above the rifle's muzzle as a sensor.

In the same vein, the ν Gundam in SD Gundam Capsule Fighter Online has its fin funnel barrier be particularly strong, being the second "form" of the unit and being able to nullify most beam weaponry. Earlier source material, such as video game profiles, often interpret the Hi-ν as the "completed" design of the ν Gundam. Articulation is limited to the neck, shoulders, hips and ankles; limbs are molded in 1-3 pieces each and are hollow on one side.A armor opening feature reveals portions of the internal frame which feature bits of embedded "psycoframe," to this interpretation. Additionally, the positioning of the Funnels allowed for arbitrary changes in the effective coverage of the barrier. Although the machine gun is of a small caliber, it is effective in restricting enemy movements, and has a broad field of fire due to being located on the forearm.

Some mention it's a very sturdy kit, while others say that the parts are easier to break and need to be handled carefully. Unlike the Hi-ν Gundam's Psycommu, which was only used for controlling the Fin Funnels, the Psycho Doga featured a Psycho-Frame, a type of Psycommu built directly into the mobile suit frame around the cockpit, and was able to better restrict the pilot's will. They are made from PS and hard ABS plastic and feature a very detailed design that can also easily be painted for an even more detailed look.
