The first part, the base, is inserted into the bag before you fill it with icing. The second part, the ring, is used to secure your tip in place. For the grass effect on the left, we used the Ateco 133 tip. The basketweave pattern on the right is made with the Wilton 48 piping nozzle. This piping tip guide will bring you through the 10 piping tips you can start with, their respective Wilton codes, and how and when you can use them ! Most Wilton piping tips are stainless steel. They are dishwasher safe and, if stored and cared for correctly, will last for years. You will use the bag-in-bag method (& couplers if working with multiple colors) if you want to switch between sizes of rosettes in the same color. To set this up, place the 1M bag into an empty icing bag without a coupler. Place all of the frosting colors into the icing bags and make sure there are standard sized couplers in the icing bags. In the image you can see, left to right, an Ateco 9885, Ateco 844, Wilton 1M, Ateco 842 and Ateco 824. The variations are not so subtle (like the #9885) to very subtle, but if you look closely at the 1M, you will see that the opening is very clearly defined, with straight lines and an opening that is neither too open nor too closed.
