L: Dialogue is poorly written and often cheesy, oh and towards the end there’s a Pet Semetary reference... That was a lot of fun. As always a nice moral to the story and the importance of having a good group of friends to drive the message home. With that out the way, I still say this is a poor comic for reasons beyond me not being in the target audience. I don’t know how a tween girl thinks, never will and have no interest in finding out, but I’m going to guess that they look for the same things most people who read for pleasure look for: good story and characters. And Gotham Academy has neither. Low, Elaine (October 6, 2020). " 'Lumberjanes' Animated Adaptation in Development at HBO Max". Variety. Archived from the original on October 7, 2020 . Retrieved October 8, 2020.L: Nothing except it was spelled “Pet Cemetery” in this when the book, movies and song spell it as “Pet Semetary” on purpose. I’m actually kind of annoyed by that. Boom! Box released a series of original graphic novels, written by Lilah Sturges and drawn by polterink: O: Now I just noticed there are only 2 stars which has me a tad disappointed, why do you not like this book? Arvedon, Jon (September 17, 2020). "BOOM! Studios' Lumberjanes to End in December". CBR. Archived from the original on September 18, 2020 . Retrieved October 8, 2020. I’m sure there’s a lot of references you would understand more if you’re familiar with both properties but it’s not necessary.

The humour is on point pretty much all the time, and the character dialogue is great. The problems become the fact that the casts are just too large to really get time to shine. Not only do you have all of the Lumberjanes + Jen + Rosie, there's also all of the Gotham Academy kids + Professor MacPherson, which is already taking us into double digits, before we even get to the 'villains' of the piece. There are a lot of moving parts, and it really gets messy as the story goes on because some people just don't have much to contribute to the plot. There's a lot of effort made to include everyone, but sometimes a narrower focus would have been more appropriate. Rosie is the camp scout-master, an easy-going, tattooed woman who enjoys woodcarving (and by dress, tattoos, name, and hobbies, is an obvious nod to Rosie the Riveter, [12] [13] playing into the theme of "Hardcore Lady Types" and feminist empowerment). She seems to know more about the mysterious events surrounding the camp than she is willing to reveal, and encourages the Lumberjanes to keep their eyes peeled, tacitly encouraging them to solve the mystery. I thought that the first volume of Gotham Academy was really good. I liked the art and the story was entertaining to read, but I felt lost sometimes. Often I felt like everyone knew what had happened last summer, all but me that was left out of it and only got scraps of information along the way. But I still enjoyed the graphic novel. I mean a prestigious school it Gotham City? Love that idea. Especially when you think about all the famous citizens in the town that could make an appearance (both the good and the bad. Like in this volume when Bruce Wayne and Killer Croc shows up. I admit that I would love to see The Joker or/and Harley Quinn showing up...

DC’s Gotham Academy, meanwhile, is wrapping up its current run ahead of a relaunch as part of the company’s Rebirth program this fall. The second collection of the series, Gotham Academy: Calamity, will be released in comic stores on March 16. L: Adventure, kinda. Exciting though? You guys spend most of the book in a cabin being all “oh shit, we should get out of this cabin, huh?” Kit, Borys (October 6, 2020). " 'Lumberjanes' Animated Series in the Works at HBO Max". The Hollywood Reporter. Archived from the original on October 7, 2020 . Retrieved October 7, 2020. The first original graphic novel set in the award winning and critically acclaimed Lumberjanes world! Over the holidays, Olive became increasingly cold and aloof. Her friends eventually uncovered too late that Olive's deteriorating behavior was due to the presence of the burned witch Amity Arkham's soul within her. Amity was the original Calamity and Olive's ancestor, whose possessions plagued her descendants (including Olive's mother) and coerced them into becoming Calamity against their will. [5] [6]
