Many of Frank Herbert’s major characters have deductive capacities that rival Sherlock Holmses’s and speak like they’ve computed 500 possible lines of dialogue in a split second and then chose the most apt option – which is probably exactly what they’ve done, given that each of them underwent some form or other of rigorous mind-training.The conflicts in the plot are not a bipolar battle of Good vs Evil, but instead the conflagration of the church and state, whether the use of atomics can be justified, our relationship with nature, the benefits of human advancement against the drawbacks of substance dependency, and the place of technology in society. It would be two decades after Dune was published that the electronic dance culture and ecstasy would become popular in Western society. Melange, or 'spice', is the most valuable - and rarest - element in the universe; a drug that does everything from increasing a person's life-span to making intersteller travel possible. Before Star Wars, before A Game of Thrones, Frank Herbert brought to blazing life a feudalistic future of relentless political intrigue and insidious treachery, a grandly operatic vision – half-Wagner, half-spaghetti western – of a hero discovering his destiny. The story explores the multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the factions of the empire confront each other in a struggle for the control of Arrakis and its spice. Three years after Dune, in 1968, Arthur C Clarke would publish his most well-known work 2001: A Space Odyssey, reveling in details of relatively near-future space travel.

As far as im concerned people reviewing this are slightly upset there image of Paul is turned upside down. He might be the end product of a very long-term genetic experiment designed to breed a super human; he might be a messiah.
