If you do install the guard cage, there is a setting in the app called “payload” that needs to be turned on...however if you forget, no problem, the Mini automatically detects it anyway and readjusts the flight envelope to a greatly reduced altitude and distance (because of the extra weight). On a hot day, I even had trouble just maintaining altitude. Honestly, when outdoors, I just don’t use the propellers guard cage at all. THEREFORE BE CAREFUL, there is no collision avoidance sensor on the Mavic Mini, unlike the Spark and other more sophisticated drones. Works exactly as I expected it. I am use to flying my Mavic pro's or phantom 4 pros for video and photo normally but compared to the spark much better images and love the three access gimbal along with the price point and weight it cannot be beaten! I have my licence her in nm but this is so nice for shots in areas where I haven't been able to film legally before without my licence! Mostly I want to say EVERY BAD REVIEW I READ STARTS WITH I WAS SO EXCITED TO GET A DRONE BUT THEN... THAT IS THE PROBLEM although very smart at this price point you are not going to get obstacle avoidance and frankly what do you expect lol its 400 dollars for a 2k 3 gimbal drone. Next time get an app, I MEAN THIS AS WELL TO EVERYONE, I TELL EVERYONE TO USE A FLIGHT SIMULATOR FOR UAV'S OVER AND OVER AND OVER BEFORE EVER FLYING. Footage looks punchy, detail captured is solid in good light, and dynamic range is fair, though we noticed clips crying out for an ND filter on a couple of occasions. There isn't a huge amount of scope to pull detail out of highlights on bright days, so the Mavic Mini isn't going to be a pro filmmaker’s dream drone, but its image quality is still great for what it is, and good enough for relatively seamless inserts with other drone footage, or casual aerial videography.
