I think it’s nice to have some themed stories for different seasons and these are ones that have been really popular in our house.

The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice I cooked 8 eggs, the recipe called for 8 but then I could only fit 6 in my pie. I ate the other 2, of course. One final tip for non-purists – you can whisk a pinch of cornflour into the eggs and sugar before you start, which helps the custard stabilise as it cooks. In addition to the items on the seder plate, the seder table should also have three pieces of matzah wrapped or covered in a cloth and a container of salt water or vinegar in which to dip the karpas. Some seder plates have a compartment for matzah underneath, or include space for salt water among the other symbols. In most cases, though, matzah and salt water or vinegar sit near, but not on, the seder plate.A roasted or hard-boiled egg that symbolizes the hagigah sacrifice, which would be offered on every holiday (including Passover) when the Temple stood. The roundness of the egg also represents the cycle of life — even in the most painful of times, there is always hope for a new beginning. How Is the Seder Plate Arranged? One way to encourage participation in the seder is to ask each guest to bring one item that, for him or her, represents liberation. Participants might bring family heirlooms that remind them of their family’s immigration story, newspaper stories about current liberation struggles, or other symbolic objects. Each guest should place this item near the seder plate and, at an appropriate time in the seder, explain its significance.

A roasted lamb shank bone that symbolizes the lamb that Jews sacrificed as the special Passover offering when the Temple stood in Jerusalem. The zeroa does not play an active role in the seder, but serves as a visual reminder of the sacrifice that the Israelites offered immediately before leaving Egypt and that Jews continued to offer until the destruction of the Temple. Vegetarians often substitute a roasted beet, both because the red of the beet resembles the blood of the sacrifice and because the Talmud mentions beets as one of the vegetables sometimes dipped during the seder. Beitzah (egg) Meanwhile, put 150g sugar into a heavy-based pan with 2 tablespoons water and dissolve over a low heat. Continue cooking until it is a golden caramel colour. Divide between 6 x 125ml ramekins, tilting them to cover the bases. Set aside to cool.

As well as this witch craft for kids I thought I would share some witch books for kids with you – these three are all ones that we have read and enjoyed, in fact we’re working our way through The Worst Witch series right now and my kids are loving it! When immersed in a bowl of water, if eggs sink are they good or bad? Many people are confused about the egg float test results. They are unsure whether to use eggs that do not sink completely to the bottom, or those that tilt a bit. How to Tell if an Egg is Bad,” wikiHow; http://www.wikihow.com/Tell-if-an-Egg-is-Bad, last accessed March 28, 2017. I love pastry, love sausages and love eggs. I could leave this post here and just show you the photos because this Sausage and Egg Pie speaks for itself. But, I can’t resist a good ramble so here’s a bit of chat. This is completely irresistible and perfect for sharing now the summer’s here. Continue with your assembly by covering the eggs with the second portion of sausage meat. You will need to patch and mould this around the eggs to make sure they are well covered.

Sephardic recipes for haroset allude to this fertility symbolism by including fruits, such as dates and figs, mentioned in Song of Songs, the biblical book that is most infused with images of love and sexuality. Maror (bitter herb, often horseradish)

A second bitter herb, used in korech or the Hillel sandwich, which consists of matzah and bitter herbs (some add haroset as well). Many Jews use horseradish for maror and Romaine lettuce or another bitter green for hazeret. Others use the same vegetable for both parts of the seder, and do not include hazeret on the seder plate at all. Preheat the oven to 150ºC/fan130ºC/gas 2. In a small bowl, beat the eggs lightly with the remaining sugar. Strain the cream into the eggs, discarding the zest, and stir well. Pour the mixture into the ramekins, then place in a large roasting tray. Pour in hot water until halfway up the ramekins’ sides. Cook for 30-35 minutes, until firm but with a wobble. Cool, then chill for at least 3 hours.

Loosen each crème caramel with a knife and invert onto a plate. Decorate with twists of orange zest and angelica. Make a start on this super easy, super tasty Sausage and Egg Pie by putting 6 eggs in a pan of cold water and bringing them to the boil. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes then immediately drench in cold water and leave to cool before peeling. Put the milk and cream into a pan and add the orange zest. Bring just to the boil, then set aside for 30 minutes to infuse. Many contemporary Jews add additional items to the seder plate to symbolize modern liberation struggles. The most common new item is an orange, which honors the role of women and/or gays and lesbians in Jewish life. The orange symbolizes the fruitfulness that these previously marginalized communities bring to Jewish life. Some Jews place an olive on the seder plate to signal hope for eventual peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Here’s the line up and in a miraculous turn of events, I don’t think I forgot to include anything this week. I used a good all butter bought puff pastry but do feel free to make your own *don’t bloody bother* or use short crust pastry if you prefer.

Eggs should be kept in the main part of the fridge because it’s colder and has a stable temperature. It is best to store the eggs in their original container. This will prevent them from absorbing other flavors in the fridge and keep them fresh. A blood or meat spot on the egg doesn’t mean it is contaminated. It can still be consumed. The spot occurs if a blood vessel ruptures when the egg is forming. Keep Your Eggs Fresh Longer Then crimp the edges together to seal this wonderful, flavour filled parcel. Make a couple of slashes in the top of the pie to allow steam to escape, then brush the whole thing with the rest of the beaten egg. Pop in the hot oven for 35 to 45 minutes until the pastry is golden and crisp and the sausage is piping hot and cooked through. If the egg white appears green, pink or has some different color, it shouldn’t be consumed as it may be contaminated with Pseudomonas bacteria. This is a treat that can elevate a simple pudding to something very special. It’s the luxurious combination of full-fat milk (no semi-skimmed substitutes here), sugar, fresh eggs and fresh vanilla that makes this silky-smooth sauce so good. Tips to success…
