And yet, Talisker is probably one of the most consistently great distilleries in modern history. The Talisker 10 remains one of the best entry-level single malts in the world, while the Talisker 18 is similarly good. Dive into some older expressions and you’re in for truly legendary stuff. Even modern young bottlings provide high quality. Talisker, owned by Diageo, is a key malt in the Johnnie Walker Red Label blend. As such, its often sweet and affable character should be familiar to many drinkers. Talisker is now making its own foray into non-age statement whisky with the release of Talisker Storm Whisky. Talisker Storm is a single malt whisky comprised of whiskies from the Talisker distillery aged between 3 and 25 years. It is designed to fit right between Talisker 10 Year Whisky and Talisker Distiller’s Edition (which varies in age) in Talisker’s portfolio. Talisker is located on the Isle of Skye, which often classifies it under the “island” or “maritime” style of Scotch whisky, although it’s traditionally far less smokey and peaty than its brethren on Islay like Caol Ila and Lagavulin. Sweet, toffee, light fruits, lemon peel, strawberry Starburst and vanilla at the end it becomes honeyed.

Each have their own nuances within the range, with the Storm edition exemplifying the darker, smokier aspects of the Carbost distillery character. Finish: For a whisky with such a big personality, the finish is surprisingly light, delivering only moderate warmth. Even so, that warmth just goes on and on. Talisker 10’s finish is initially sweet, leaving a mix of fruity and smoky flavours on the palate. The smoke covers the spiciness and makes it look pale with a tendency to weakness, although supposedly 45.8%.? Talisker is known for it’s range of mildly smoky single malt whiskies, each with low phenol levels of around 18-20 PPM. Each Talisker expression has a smoky flavour, with the smokiest being their NAS Storm edition released in 2013. This whisky is matured in re-charred ex-bourbon American Oak casks which elevate the charcoal and ashy notes within.Today I am looking at the 3rd of my mini Talisker bottles, and it is time for the Talisker Storm single malt whisky. The Talisker 10 yo whisky easily makes it onto my top 10 desert island drams. I love the smoky, creamy notes of this release. It is affordable and bursts with flavour.
