My favourite of the stories was the one centred around the betrayal of the Avenging Sons third company. This story tells of an encounter by the Salamanders Space Marine Chapter battling Chaos forces and the Dragon Warriors Chaos Space Marines.

Headhunted' by Steve Parker is my favourite story included in this book and sees a Deathwatch Killteam infiltrate an ork ship. The final story in this collection is `One Hate' by Aaron Dembski-Bowden which although good is something of a retread of `And They Shall Know No Fear. I think Anthologies are a great work break book since you can easily get into the story without having to think about what happened since your last shift.In the wake of the Battle of Rynn's World, however, priorities may have changed for these sons of Rogal Dorn. My only gripe is similar to those in other reviews of this book: Traitorous Chaos Marines are not heroes! I want a book about the heroes of the space marines to actually be about the heroes of the space marines. Better than that Soul Drinkers nonsense, but not as good as the Ultramarines series, or Brothers of the Snake.

Out of the 8 stories I liked the ones that stood out the best and that made this anthology worthwhile were: Honor Among Fiends, Fires of War, Labyrinth, Headhunted, And They Shall Know No Fear, and, One Hate(details on each in my updates). Renowned as some of the staunchest defenders of humanity, surely it is inconceivable that marines of the Crimson Fists Chapter would ever shrink from bringing death to the Emperor's enemies? Perhaps to see if you might be interested I guess, in which case this is again a good place to start. This is very straightforward tale on crimson fists helping imperial guard while on their own mission.

Pretty decent quality writing for the most part, some stories are unfortunately underwhelming, but there's three stories are worth mentioning. Honsou is on New Badab in the heart of the Maelstrom with the intention to win the Skull Harvest, a contest between warbands where the champions of said warbands fight each other to determine which leader gets control of each other's men.
