In some lakes & lochs, wave action and a pebble substrate can provide trout with spawning habitat on the wind-swept shorelines. Large trout can eat large prey. For example, large New Zealand trout feed on the periodic plagues of mice. Originating from the west coast of North America, these species have made their way across the continent, extending from north to the Arctic Sea and as far south as Mexico.
