Description

I adore this book. It was one of the very first gifts Jon gave me when we started dating. It’s a classic, in my opinion. March of the Microbes is the first microbiology book that I read just for fun, and I enjoyed it so much. It covers microbes in humans, food, drink, and nature. A quote about the book:

Dark Matter by James Kinross | Waterstones

The Hidden Half of Nature is one of the most beautifully written books about microbial life. I’ve read it twice now. If you like nature, gardening, plants, and human health, this book is for you. The authors include so much information about soil health and the interconnectedness of human health to the soil. The parallels they draw provide a holistic explanation of the necessity of microorganisms for the health of our entire world. Professor Tim Spector is at the coalface of microbiome research, and he’s also a massive foodie. This book goes into the nitty-gritty of how our gut microbiomes affect our food preferences and our health. Expect a good dose of science with a side of personal anecdotes. Restrictive: The microbiome diet can be very restrictive, especially in the first phase. It isn’t usually necessary for most people to cut out as many foods as the first phase requires. Corn, soy, eggs, grains, legumes, and dairy can have a very healthy place in most people’s diets. Each one of these books offers important topics in gut nutrition. Some even offer guidelines or recipes you can try as a practical application at home. Michael Ruscio is Functional Medicine Practitioner based in California, US. In this impressive, self-published tome, he presents a step-by-step guide to improving your gut health. No detail is left to chance—right down to how many pots of supplements you’ll need. Iliev ID, Funari VA, Taylor KD, et al. Interactions between commensal fungi and the C-type lectin receptor Dectin-1 influence colitis. The Gut Microbiome: Exploring the Connection between Microbes

The British epidemiologist and science writer explained why you might be losing any weight even if you’re following these diet fads because the diet itself isn’t the only factor for potential weight loss. In The Microbiome Connection , doctors Pimentel and Rezaie provide explanations of what happens to IBS/SIBO patients from the first diagnosis to the end of treatment; reveal what changes can occur in the body in terms of the underlying physical processes to symptoms that may develop; and share evidence-based management and treatment of those symptoms through dietary changes and drug treatment. Also included are meal plans and sample menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, all of which are accompanied by explanations of which foods to eat in moderation and which foods to avoid because they will feed bacteria in the gut and could cause additional symptoms. The Author, Rodney Dietert, is a professor of immunotoxicology at Cornell. He has a Ph.D. in immunogenetics from UT Austin. So, he’s a credible author. I also love that this cookbook offers 80 delicious recipes that you can follow for a simple 6-week meal plan to achieve your personal goals.

Protein foods, including lean meats, poultry, and eggs; seafood; beans, peas, and lentils; and nuts, seeds, and soy products Dr. Mosley also provides scientifically proven ways to boost our immune system and lose weight by cutting cravings and keeping our guts healthy. You’ll also learn about the stool transplant, the strange but possibly effective remedy to a severely troubled microbiome. Dairy, including fat-free or low-fat milk, yogurt, and cheese, and/or lactose-free versions and fortified soy beverages and yogurt as alternatives Dr Michael Ruscio is a practitioner and clinical researcher specialised in alternative therapies in health and medicine. He’s dedicated his life to the human gut and the ramifications gut health has for the whole body. From probiotics and SIBO to immune health and hypothyroidism, Dr Ruscio has explored the lesser known effects of gut health on illness.

I'm a microbiologist and together with my husband, Jon we are Cultured Guru. It was a good read, I wish it would had given a much more step by step treatment plan and what to do when you are finished, but still, I felt like I learned from it and found another piece of the puzzle so its definitely worth the money.
