Un país marginal y, además, escasamente conocido más allá de cuatro clichés; un país que ni siquiera existe ya: Checoslovaquia. And unfortunately there are very little if no chances at all that Gottland will become a movie one day with, say, Leonardo Di Caprio performing Tomasz Bata, Natalie Portman putting herself in the shoes of Lida Baarova and Vaclav Havel starring as himself. Wander around the cobbled streets of Visby – the main town on the island’s east coast – and it’s as though you’ve been transported to medieval times. Gotland prospered as a major trade center of N Europe, but internal strife between the Hanse merchants and local tradesmen weakened the county. Confronted by the hatred of her fellow citizens, she ended up in Austria, "knowing (as she later said in an interview) that whatever ill people spoke of her, it was bound to be too little.

The winner of the 2009 European Book Prize, Gottland has just been released in the United States, translated wonderfully by Antonia Lloyd-Jones.

He usually worked with Karel Kachyňa, one of the founders of the Czech New Wave, including on The Ear, which was based on Procházka's experience of being bugged by the secret police. GGN is a part of the Swedish enduroklassikern (enduro classics, Ränneslättsloppet, Stångebroslaget and Gotland Grand National). On 16 July 1999, the world's largest Viking silver treasure, the Spillings Hoard, was found in a field at Spillings farm northwest of Slite. For example, there's the story of the small businessman who adopted Henry Ford's ideas on productivity to create the world's largest shoe company--and hired modernist giants such as Le Corbusier to design his company towns (which were also the birthplaces of Ivana Trump and Tom Stoppard). The newer churches were constructed in the Gothic architectural style that prevailed from about 1250–1400.Seasonal temperature variation is smaller in more isolated places on the island such as Hoburgen or Östergarnsholm, having warmer autumn and winter, but are cooler during spring and summer days.
