Description

The difference in setup was jarring, there is simply no comparison between plugging in a single DP cable, one USB cable for the hub and a power cord to the set up of three monitors. What would be a bit of time to get the displays connected, swap the cords that don’t want to reach, convincing the graphics driver where the monitors were physically and then fiddling with the mount until the displays were lined up took only seconds. I did the exchange and found that the monitor I received was the EXACT SAME with the same outdated EDID, manufactured May 2020 A03. They concluded that the monitor is suited for mainstream gaming, with a specific focus on single-player titles. I went through the normal rundown: fresh install of Win10 LTSC, used the supplied DP cable, using the latest nvidia drivers, installed the monitor's INF driver, etc. For those of you are curious, I'm running a GeForce GTX Titan X.Make sure to enable freesync on the monitor. Then it should show up in the Nvidia control panel

Of course, if you do like displays with wild design and plenty of lighting, the Dell doesn’t fit the bill. Alienware will be more your style. The 32in diagonal and gentle curve make the Dell an absorbing option – great if you want to really get lost in your games. https://www.dell.com/community/Monitors/S3220DGF-revision-A03-still-no-1440p120Hz-over-HDMI/m-p/7640772 I went through the normal rundown: fresh install of Win10 LTSC, used the supplied DP cable, using the latest nvidia drivers, installed the monitor's INF driver, etc. For those of you are curious, I'm running a GeForce GTX Titan X.

Nevertheless, at this price, there’s a lot to like. The Dell S3220DGF is a top-notch option for immersive mainstream gaming. You should buy it if…

I have tried to express this to Dell to no avail. They have attempted to connect me to Customer Care multiple times and each time I get disconnected. When I try and call the number they gave me I get general technical support. and va... is not from the past? no new fast-ips?The DPI of 1440p at 32" is the same as a 1080p at 24" so that isn't bad. Also VA is the panel type used on the majority of LED TVs. While IPS is nice, I prefer VA for the added contrast. The Dell’s logos use a blue, metallic shade, but that’s it for ornamentation. Subtle gunmetal plastic is used throughout, the stand is a sleek pillar of metal, and the base is smart, flat, and ideal for peripheral storage. The bezels are slim, and the build quality is consistently impressive. Dell’s display also has height, pivot, and tilt adjustment, but no portrait mode option which, again, is entirely normal for a curved monitor. So having slightly bigger one, curved and 165Hz with HDR seems like the best combination for home, right?

One tip is for the Response Time under the Game menu – Super Fast seems better than extreme. If you want to play high-level competitive games, you’ll be better off with a 240Hz display with a 1ms response time, even at a lower resolution – it will be smoother, faster, and more crisp. The OSD is well designed and worth spending a bit of time getting to know. Along with the obvious controls found on all monitors you will be able to tweak your response rate, HDR settings and even set up four shortcut keys if you so desire. For those without a colourimeter there are eight preset colour modes to choose from, with three game profiles you can program and store as well as a general custom colour profile.

There's no need for calibration when the S3220DGF is in its default Standard mode. You’ll have to use the DCI-P3 color gamut for all content since there is no sRGB mode. We find QHD to be the best balance between detail and performance. Although 4K gaming monitors will look slightly sharper, its lower motion resolution will erase much of that gain unless you have a lot of graphics processing power under the hood. The S3220DGF is a great fit for a mid to high-budget systems. I am coming from a 27" QHD monitor and I think the text may be a little less sharp but it is more than acceptable. There are 12 picture modes. Eight are fixed and designed for different game types. The default is Standard, and it's very accurate with no calibration required. The remaining four can be calibrated with gain, offset, hue and saturation sliders. Four additional modes appear when HDR signals are detected. The Dell S3220DGF is an impressive gaming monitor in many areas: it offers superb core image quality alongside subtle and sturdy design, and its size, resolution and curve deliver absorbing gaming. In addition, the Dell S3220DGF has superior color accuracy, a larger screen size, and an impressive contrast ratio.
