Description

This replica Roman pot has been hand made in Northumberland by Potted History, inspired by original artefacts. It has been wood-fired to a temperature of between 800°C & 1000°C, using the same techniques that the original potters would have employed nearly two thousand years ago. This process often results in variations of the surface colour and texture, emulating original Roman Pottery and giving each pot its unique character. Although Jews and Quakers were exempt from the 1753 Act, it required religious non-conformists and Catholics to be married in Anglican churches. This is a Museum Quality Replica made using the tools and techniques that would have been used during the Roman era. As this is an unglazed pot with a porous surface it will absorb some of the flavours of the food being stored, which does add to the flavour of future dishes. However, it does also mean that this pot does not meet modern Health and Safety standards and therefore we do not advise that it is used for storing food. When the Romans used these storage jars they would rely on applying sufficient heat to the cooking pot and its contents to ensure that all bacteria was killed. Heating to over 70 °C for at least 10 minutes would have killed most disease causing bacteria and temperatures of 100°C would do even more. This replica has been handmade and smoke-fired, just as the original ceramic figures from the palaeolithic period, such as the Dolni Vestonice, would have been. It gives them a variegated finish that ensures no two figures are exactly alike.

Moving forward now to 1443-1550 the towns name starts to take on its more familiar look and is denoted as Counsett, Conset, Consyd, Consed and Cowside all of which appear in the Wills & Inventories of the Surtees Society Volumes 34 & 35. Within the court of Henry the VIII there are a few accounts of the town when it is given the name Conside in Latin and in the English translation is now stated as Consett. Due to its expert technical knowledge of the technologies and materials available across the industry, Promain has a reputation for outstanding service among its trade and retail customers. The foundation of the new Iron Works at the turn of 1840 saw men come from all four corners of the kingdom to join in and become part of this newfound wealth and industrial boom, later followed by many of their families. These early years were a turbulent time of unrest especially between the English and Irish faction’s, religion playing no small part. There were many running battles throughout the years, some very famous like the Battle of the Blue Heaps, some not so. colonies. The ex-colonies formed the British Commonwealth, now the Commonwealth of Nations of 53 states.

As with all my Museum Quality Replicas, we have made this pot, as the original would have been, entirely by hand from natural clay and using replicas of the types of tool that the ancient makers would have used. As each pot varies, you may not receive the same cup in the image, but you can be sure that your pot will be one of a kind due to the variations caused by the firing process. If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. I describe these rights below: When choosing a colour variation, please be aware that the colour and mottling vary with each Venus due to the firing process, giving each one its own individual character. But we will select your Venus according to your preference. A form of the iconic Samian Ware, the original vessels would have been mass-produced in Gaul before being sent out to all the corners of the Roman Empire, where Roman civilians and soldiers would have used them to serve food. I make accurate replicas of ancient pots, specialising in: British Prehistoric, Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age; Roman and Anglo Saxon. These go to Museums, Universities and Collectors worldwide. I also make props for TV and Film. Using extensive research and over thirty years of potting experience, combined with; careful selection of materials, purpose made tools and the recreation of ancient firing conditions, result in pots which are as close to the originals as possible. Consett, the town we know today, has only been in existence since the early 1840s and the foundation of the Consett Iron Company. Prior to that, it was a couple of hamlet-like communities dotted between the Stanefordham Inn and the end of what is now Sherburn Terrace. The Second World War 1939-1945 was fought between the Allied Powers (Britain, France, Russia, China, the USA) and the Axis Powers (Germany, Italy,

The Ministry of Justice said the statistics showed forced marriage is more likely to impact girls than boys, with 2018 figures for England and Wales showing that 28 boys married under the age of 18 compared with 119 girls. Civil partnerships

However, the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act 2022 means it is now a crime to exploit vulnerable children by arranging for them to marry under any circumstances, whether or not force was used. The Act raises the age of marriage and civil partnership to 18 in England and Wales to protect children from the scourge of forced marriage.
