The recommended free chlorine level for most pools is somewhere between 2 and 3 parts per million (ppm), but it’s actually safe to swim at levels much higher than this. User tip: to increase the free chlorine by 1ppm (parts per million), add 100 grams per 10,000 gallons. What are stabilised chlorine tablets? DPD stands for N,N Diethyl-1,4 Phenylenediamine Sulfate, which is the reagent used in the test kit.

With that predicament in mind, it’s important to make sure the alkalinity level of your pool is correct before any pH alterations are carried out. After the correct alkalinity level is established, test the pH level of the water. If the pH level needs increasing further, add sodium carbonate (pH plus)and, if it needs decreasing, add sodium bisulphate (pH minus). An elevated chlorine level isn’t usually a serious problem, but it can lead to some complications with the balance of your water. It also makes for a less enjoyable swim. User tip: At the start of each season, it’s recommended to dose 1 litre of algaecide to each 10,000 gallons of pool water. This will help prevent algae getting established in your pool. Each week, add 100millilitres to each 10,000 gallons of pool water to continue the protection against algae.

Bromine is an alternative swimming pool sanitiser chemical to chlorine. Bromine offers a number of benefits for maintaining pool water, acting as a sanitiser, oxidiser and algaecide for your pool. While chlorine is the more common choice among pool owners, bromine is the chemical of preference for spa and hot-tub owners due to its superior effectiveness in warmer temperatures. Using a brominator and BCDMH sanitiser (bromine tablets) Pre-dissolve the product in a clean plastic cpontainer at a maximum rate of 100g of product per 2.2 gallons (10ltrs) of clean warm water. Stir well to ensure product is fully dissolved. Carefully add the resulting solution to the pool whilst the pump(s) are turned "on", preferably near to the water inlets to aid distribution. Fi-Clor offers a comprehensive range of high quality pool chemicals and pool chlorine, ideal for your swimming pool, spa pool or above ground pool. Brush regularly, especially the pool walls and deep end, to prevent invisible algae colonies from forming. Split this total amount into 4 smaller doses. Apply each 1/4 dose, allowing time to thoroughly circulate (2-3 hours for commercial pools / 6-8 hours for domestic pools) before re-testing chlorine/bromine level and if necessary adding further doses.

On that note, you won’t have much wiggle room if your water exceeds the recommended chlorine level while having little to no cyanuric acid in your water, so always err on the side of caution. 4 Ways to Lower Your Chlorine Level (Best to Worst) Make sure your filter is working properly and that your pump runs at least 6 hours per day - preferably divided into two different intervals. Each topic will give you a complete breakdown of what the chemicals do and how to use them correctly, so you can get to grips with how to maintain your home swimming pool efficiently. However, these tablets also have an algaecide and a flocculant built in - allowing you to reduce the chances of algae and cloudiness occurring while dosing your pool with chlorine. Unstabilised chlorine Do not pour this product into a pool skimmer basket containing chlorine tablets or any other product. You should monitor the level of active bromine in your pool with a bromine test kit and adjust your brominator to give a bromine level between 2-4ppm. Your pool’s pH level can be allowed to rise to between 7.8 and 8.0, so very little pH minus is required.
