It’s not really advertised, but the blaster even has slam-fire! It’s not that much of an extra advantage, of course, given the long priming distance. You also lose a bit of power from things not being lined up perfectly yet (the cylinder is literally aligning as the dart fires). But it’s an extra that got included anyway! Performance and War Use The Big Rig does as well as you’d expect, based on the other blasters we’ve seen. It averages 56fps with the humongous Mega XL darts. However, given both the time to reload and prime the blaster, you’re only looking at a shot every three seconds or so. This blaster is much more oriented for plinking than the other two in the line. Internals My gripes on size aside…there’s reasons for some of the plastic. Under the main barrel are two storage slots for spare darts (the blaster ships with three). The main grip is sufficient, but not nearly as comfortable as the grips on the other Mega XL blasters. Normally I don’t see mods for smart AR blasters to fire other ammo, due to difficulties in trying to adapt the mechanism. But at least one person has made it happen! Final Thoughts

The Big Rig has an N-strike tactical rail on the bottom of the gun as well as rear and front iron style sights on top. This blaster also has a lanyard mount on the bottom of the grip. PerformanceThere are no sub-series that belong completely to N-Strike Mega. The only sub-series the theme has are shared with N-Strike Elite or Zombie Strike. Testing the range can depend on a lot of things but the average straight shooting range is 40-50 feet. However, if you angle the blaster up a bit, you can get about a 60-foot max range. Who Should Buy The Mega XL Boom Dozer The original color scheme for Mega was red with orange tips, but variations have since come out with certain blasters. Mega XL currently has one color of dart, which is all light blue. Performance The Boomdozer averages 58fps with the Mega XL darts. Which sounds low, until you remember how massive they are! The fact that you’re shooting them that fast is impressive. Rate of fire is predictably slow, with the long priming action, but one dart per second is perfectly feasible.

With the new Mega XL line, Nerf sees a true return to form. And the Boomdozer, as it turns out, is not only large and silly, but effective as well. It’s the most fun I’ve had with a Hasbro blaster all year, and I can’t think of a better way to launch a new blaster line. Mega XL Darts are the largest type of ammo classified as a dart, beating out the Lanard Mega Darts and Giant Darts. With a six-shot dart capacity, it also has the highest ammo capacity of the three. Each pump causes the drum cylinder to rotate and allows you to shoot one dart at a time. The Nerf Mega XL Double Crusher is a massive pump-action shotgun that fires one giant dart at a time. Features Mega XL is larger and less sleek, based on the type of blaster. For example, the Big Rig is a single-shot pistol that is bigger than any Mega with one shot capacity. The Boomdozer has two barrels, one on top of the other. It uses Hasbro’s “smart AR” system to fire darts out, like we’ve seen in so many blaster before. If the dart is loaded in the top, the air will fire it out. Once the dart is gone, the internal valve closes off that barrel, and opens a path to the next one. NERF MEGA XL BOOM DOZER BLASTER WITH XL 6-DART DRUM: The blaster has a rotating drum with 6-dart capacity and fires 1 dart at a time with pump-action priming As you can see, the dart holders very lightly grip the darts. I don’t expect the clips to damage the darts in any way if you happen to leave them in between wars.

The BattleCamo Series is a sub-series part of the N-Strike Elite, and N-Strike Mega series, featuring "camo"-style repaints of blasters. One issue with this gun is that the grip is a bit small, and people with larger hands might pinch or rub their hands when priming it. The grip is small enough that it also isn’t very comfortable to hold with just one hand. Who Should Buy The Mega XL Big Rig More importantly, the fact that it’s still a dart means more possibilities concerning blaster design. Cylinders, magazines (those would be quite large…), and more could happen, while missiles have less flexibility. Oversized

Last Thoughts

While Mega can shoot 60-70 FPS, the blasters featured in the article only shoot 55 FPS max. It only makes sense that XL generally has less range for now. Final Thoughts Nerf is at its best when it’s being silly. Those of us that grew up in the 1990s don’t remember Nerf for long distance dart blasting. Instead, those fond memories are reserved for things like Ballzookas and Arrowstorms. We fired large ammo at opponents not because it was the most effective thing around, but because it was fun. The Double Crusher launches its massive ammo at 50 FPS, but doesn’t have great range. The max range is about 50 feet when with an angle, and the average straight shot will go 25-40 feet.

One of the best things about these blasters is that they aren’t overpriced for the enormity. You aren’t gonna compete in a serious Nerf war gamewith them, but they are genuinely entertaining to play with. INCLUDES 6 NERF MEGA XL DARTS THAT WHISTLE AS THEY FLY: The Boom Dozer blaster comes with 6 Official Nerf Mega XL foam darts that make a whistling sound as they streak through the air The pump grip is large and comfortable to use, with a long, geared prime to compress the strong spring within. The main grip, meanwhile, is sized pretty much perfectly. I can’t complain on either front. The blaster features a six-dart cylinder, with a loading slot on each side. Loading the blaster is easy, with the cylinder being able to be turned by hand. Naturally, even the “barrel” at the front is oversized, just because Hasbro can. Naturally, the use of such a system means that darts from barrels farther down the line fire more slowly; the air has a longer path to get there. However, when you only have two barrels, the drop isn’t too drastic. Especially with a wide plunger and strong spring.Noticeably, the plunger rod is actually already somewhat bent, due to the spring already being under compression. The blaster still works fine, but I doubt that’s intentional. I’ll keep an eye on that, and see how long the blaster survives. Last Thoughts The con is that they are not made for high FPS or range. We will have to see if they release more blasters with a bit more power. Performance The most notable thing about the Mega XL line, of course, is the giant blue dart. Whereas Mega darts are about 19mm in diameter, Mega XL jumps all the way to 30mm. It’s not quite Demolisher missile size, but it’s getting there! These darts weigh in at a shade a over six grams. Essentially, six times the mass of a normal dart. As stated above, the spring on this blaster is quite strong. Inside the blaster, we have a mechanism similar to that in the Ultra Four; that is, an extremely long priming motion is converted into a short movement of a stupidly strong spring. The Z.E.D. Squad sub-series features re-released blasters with color schemes similar to that of standard Zombie Strike blasters. Blasters feature no performance change.
