Choose between eating more informally at the large round kitchen table or (assuming it is not taken up with board games or a jigsaw) in the dining area overlooking the lounge. These days, Lion House it is a separate entity and has been transformed into a grade two listed family home. One of the most fascinating passages in The Lion House is de Bellaigue’s description of the process by which Venice chose its Doge, and I can't resist quoting it here: The butcher and the vegetable shop are small but very nice. Unfortunately, we did not manage to visit the motor museum. How much of this richness of material detail and incident will be appreciated above the noise of a fit-out is still to be tested. But it is an impressively sensitive restoration of the original architecture’s qualitative feel, internally expressing it to powerfully orchestrate and punctuate the spaces. Deploying the techniques of a novel and written almost wholly in the present tense, The Lion House presents an immersive drama of espionage and international power-broking in sixteenth century Europe - a time when the great fear of Christendom was Suleyman the Magnificent, who vied with the Holy Roman Emperor for the title of 'Sovereign of the World', and his terrifying pirate commander Barbarossa.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th-century, the town was a fashionable social centre, and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by and for thrill seekers Alton Towers with its exciting collecting of rides and attractions is just a short drive away. While Ibrahim is sponging off of Suleyman, Alvise Gritti, the bastard son of the Venetian Doge, has his sights set on Ibrahim. This look at the Venetians' inside access to Suleyman's most trusted advisor briefly gives hope to the medieval maritime empire that increasingly found itself squeezed between Spanish and Ottoman expansion. The fact that Suleyman focused so many of his energies on Vienna and Persia, when Venice and southern Italy were more feasable targets testifies to the true loyalties of these two men with origins in Venetian lands.

Continuing to impress is the well-equipped kitchen, housing all the essentials you could possibly need to whip up your own delicious meal. Plenty of space for 3 families to enjoy their stay. Bedrooms very comfortable with ensuites. Games room an added bonus for little and big kids!! Just a short stroll into town and 14 seconds to the pub.....would recommend staying here... Everywhere, the original terrazzo and tiling has been restored or recreated, while externally the façade’s distinctive exoskeleton has been cleaned and new glazing installed, designed to match the old, while massively improving the building’s environmental performance.Total Centre Point Link and House including basements (excluding out of scope residential): 8,870m² It is not known how long he lived in the Brattleby home for, but the building is incredibly close to RAF Scampton. We especially loved walking through the old railway tunnel, and following the Tissington trail. The house was wonderful - so spacious and comfortable. Everything we could possibly need was there ! Even Mr Fox and friend. The kitchen was amazing! The main television was great with a wide choice of channels. We hope to stay there again .

This is a book of non-fiction that reads like a novel. It tells the story of Suleyman's rise to power in the 16th century, the Ottoman Empire's relationship with Venice, Charles V the "Holy Roman Emperor," and Francis I of France. More intimately, it tells the story of Ibrahim Pasha, a Westerner who became Suleyman's close friend as an enslaved boy and rose with him to power, wealth, and influence. Hurrem, the woman who was captured in what is now Ukraine, made a concubine of the Sultan, and eventually became his wife, is also depicted here. Above this are around 30 storeys of residential, with between one and four flats per floor, ranging in size from one to five bedrooms. These are cleanly and intelligently planned with cores and service rooms massed along under the central spine beams. All partition walls are designed to meet the outer façade at right angles, so as to minimise the sense of a retrofit, giving the feel that the new layouts on each floor are ‘how it should have always been’ as Conran senior partner Tim Bowder-Ridger puts it.Lion House has supplied our parish photocopier for the past five years. It has been a real pleasure to work with them - the have provided us with excellent service, always courteous and prompt... There is so much to do all within about an hours drive. It was so hot when we were there we hit the beaches. Our favourite was South Milton Sands but Shaldon (Ness Cove) came a close second. Lion House was once part of Brattleby Hall - a former home of Guy Gibson. These days it is a home in its own right. Pictured is the annexe. (Image: Mundy's) All in all one of the best holidays we have had. Hope to make Lion House our home from home again in the future.
