Take a staple gun, pneumatic stapler, screw gun, or nail gun, and staple the corner bead down to the drywall board. Staple along the ribbed edges of the corner bead, not in the center, so it securely attaches to the drywall and doesn’t ruin the corner’s sharp look. Corner bead is typically only used on outside corners because it’s vulnerable to wear and tear. Although corner beads are used on inside corners, they aren’t necessary, since a simple paper tape installation will suffice. 3 Types of corner bead The corners are created by the actual drywall piece, not a corner bead that needs to be applied by costly field labor. Making Drywall Corners Simple

After several decades of metal corner bead being the primary product, most projects are now done with paper-faced corner bead. A few new systems have been introduced over the last few years to make installing drywall corner bead more efficient and save you money on drywall taping labor costs. Another benefit is that vinyl corner beads can be inserted into the edge of the drywall, creating a solid edge that prevents the exposed drywall edge from crumbling apart. Inspect the corner bead to make sure it’s still properly fixed to the wall. If it’s loose, add some extra screws to pin it down. Step 3: Clean the areaCut it slightly longer than you need so you have a bit of wiggle room, as you can trim it down later. Step 4: Secure the corner bead To install it correctly on a home improvement DIY project, you will need to measure and cut the trim to the correct size and apply it exactly where you want it.

Inside corner bead also comes specialized for the particular drywall style you’re using. Off angles, inside corners, wide corners…they each have their own specialized type of bead.Paper-faced corner bead is a great alternative to metal corner bead. It costs slightly more than metal bead, but many tapers will argue it’s more than worth the few extra pennies. You can install vinyl corner beads with the same variety of techniques as metal ones. However, if you’re not using mechanical fasteners like staples, nails, or screws, you’ll need a special adhesive or compound product. Place the new corner bead against the corner of the drywall, making sure it’s straight using a level. Use either nails or drywall screws (screws typically have better holding power) to secure the bead, spacing them about 10 inches apart.

Let’s get the basics of each type of corner bead, then look at what projects might work best for each type. Vinyl Corner Bead The Grabber PanelMax is one of the most advanced pieces of technology in the drywall business today. If you’re feeling confident and want to give DIY a go, carefully follow these steps: Step 1: Assess the damageVinyl corner bead comes in the widest array of shapes, sizes, and styles. It also has an arch bead option, which has little notches on its sides that you can easily bend and shape to fit any trim size. There are several different ways to install vinyl corner bead, but the manufacturer-recommended way is to use a spray adhesive and then staple them to the drywall board. How is corner bead installed? Attach the vinyl to the drywall corner and press it in it for several seconds to ensure it’s secure. It offers sharper angles and a more professional finish. With paper tape, it’s easy to end up with folds in the corners or an otherwise slapdash look. Taping your joints takes more skill and it can be easy to mess up. Corner beading comes with sharp angles built into the tape, which means that you don’t have to worry about folds and creases.

Archways don’t have corners, but the drywall on either side of the archway still has to meet, and that’s where archway corner beads come into play. The special thing about these corner beads is that they’re highly flexible. Metal corner beads are made of galvanized metal, which is simply metal with a protective coating of zinc. Regardless of the type of corner bead used or the method of application, it needs to be put on straight and attached firmly. Drywall crimping tools and/or lasers are sometimes used to ensure the bead goes on straight. Lasers are the best way to ensure that corner bead is installed correctly, but they should only be used by professionals because of the inherent dangers Drywall Crimping Tools Once the vinyl is firmly attached to the drywall, you can begin coating. Vinyl typically requires one or two coats of mud. Corner bead needs not only to be installed straight but also square on both sides. When paying attention to the entire length of the bead, ensuring it is straight, don't forget to make sure it doesn't fold over too far on one side, leaving the other side too shallow. You can tell easily if it is applied square by placing a straightedge at a 90° angle to the bead and notice the gap created . The gap from the bead to the drywall should be even on both sides. If you have a deep cavern on one side but the bead is hitting the straightedge on the other, slide the bead toward the shallow side. If the bead is left shallow on one side it will flash through the drywall mud, making it very difficult for the drywall finishers. Step 4 - Make sure it is attached firmly

This protective coating makes them resistant to rust, and in general, metal corner beads can stand up to minor to moderate wear and tear. You’ll need to cut and install hundreds of pieces on the PanelMax to save drywall finishing time and get a return on your investment. But it is a bad (in a good way) machine to see in action. Typically corner bead installation comes after taping, though some drywall finishers like to install corner bead first. It all depends on your preference. Here’s how to install various types of corner bead: Metal corner bead When choosing the best drywall corner for your project, you can’t go wrong with metal or vinyl corner beads. Metal beads are the most common choice, and vinyl corner beads are similar but come in more varieties and are less prone to damage during transportation. Since the interior corner bead requires less joint compound for its installation, the drying time is shorter. Shorter drying time means that you can get your project finished sooner. For construction crews, that can be a pretty serious godsend.
