The state of HDCD and how Microsoft has let it go is a real argument for investing as consumers only in vinyl, FLAC, WAVE, AIFF, CDs, and MP3s. The companion set – Official Release Series Disc 8.5-12 – would contain the next four albums, so that is CD editions of American Stars & Bars, Comes A Time, Rust Never Sleeps, Live Rust and Long May You Run.

Live Rust is a 1979 live album with Crazy Horse recorded during his fall 1978 Rust Never Sleeps tour. One bit of confusion is around whether this will be a special 50th anniversary edition or just a standalone vinyl offering of the re-release we already got. I did poke the bear on this and never got a response. I am sure many others have written in as well, and this never got clarified to my knowledge. What SHOULD a 50th Anniversary edition of TFA look like? Any takers? Features Elvis Costello, Crosby Stills & Nash, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, Ben Harper, Elton John, Norah Jones, Lady Antebellum, Dave Matthews, James Taylor, Keith Urban, and others. And to be crystal clear here, no one is complaining and everyone is grateful that these recordings are finally seeing the light of day regardless of whether an OBS or OPS or whatever series. The 1979 Rust Never Sleeps album features Neil Young with the band Crazy Horse. Most of the album was recorded live then overdubbed.

in terms of possibilities, someone put together an alternate mix of TFA from various other dates which we found to be pretty cool. It included an amazingly outrageous version of Last Dance that went on forever. The Official Release Series Disc 5-8 box set was issued on vinyl in November 2014 and a four-CD equivalent would feature a superb collection of sought-after Young, including On The Beach (1974), Time Fades Away (1973), Tonight’s The Night (1975) and Zuma (1975).

Has Neil or Reprise ever said anything about repressing these boxes? Or releasing the remasters as individual CDs? I have read and understand no Grateful Dead titles since 2012 use HDCD peak extension and Neil obviously isn’t using it anymore, but if only due to the Dead, there are a LOT of titles out there HDCD encoded with peak extension. Going forward, we will not be able to hear a small part of this music. This particular announcement wouldn’t be nearly as confusing if it had been posted on April 1st……..I think. Perhaps the previous release was just a figment of our imagination……… maybe the film The Matrix really was a documentary. century and widely bootlegged, the album is considered to be the "Holy Grail" of all Neil Young albums.

Notes

Five Albums Released on Limited Edition 6LP Box Set! Reissued on 180g Audiophile Vinyl for the First Time! If we didn't believe in typical " neilyoungian logic" than we'd think ol' Neil was punking us. Or maybe this is Neil's subtle " neilyoungian logic" way of suggesting we take the TFA petition down, mission accomplished???

Of course” Time Fades Away” did not sell – I had to search for it for ages before I found a cassette copy. But it is bloody brilliant and possibly the best live album ever. – No, it is one of the greatest albums ever. And at last I have a legal CD copy – I have it on vinyl – this is far superior. archives one, archives two, original release series 5 -8 and original release series 8.5 -12 are all out of print and selling for silly money.

none of the 13 albums, not a single one of them, has seen the light of day as a single release. if you want to buy one of them as an individual album you must buy an older master. Credited to the Stills-Young Band, the 1976 album Long May You Run is a collaboration between Neil Young and Stephen Stills. officially released. Those interested in obtaining a legal copy of Time Fades Away were urged to sign the petition. The first official CD release of “Time fades Away” comes in the four CD box set “Official Release Series Discs 5-8”. Now if you don’t know “Time Fades Away” – well, it isn’t “Harvest”. In fact it was the first of the “Ditch” trilogy. Neil Young thought that with “Harvest” he was in “the Middle of the road” and he would rather be in “the ditch”. And “Time Fades Away” is a live album and it is totally raw – Neil’s vocals are not perfect and the production values are basic. Just a weird state of affairs. Seems like it would be simple enough to delete the old versions of the CDs and replace them with the remasters, just as they've done with the s/t, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After The Gold Rush, and Harvest. And for someone who seems to care about sound quality, it seems weird to let the old CD masters remain out there in the wild as the standard CD versions.
