Description

The cord is 2.5 metres long and has a 360°C spin feature, meaning that the cord doesn’t get tangled up in the straightener as you go. This makes using it extremely easy and makes for a perfect hair curling tool. Accessory-wise, this straightener come with a transparent, square heating mat (great if you don’t have fluff on your floor) and a travel bag, so portability isn’t a question.

When you turn the straightener on for the first time, it automatically defaults to StyleAdapt1 mode. Then, as you work through the hair section by section the sensor strip in the center of the plates starts getting to know your hair. The little icon on the display panel spins as you style, indicating that it’s learning what your hair needs and adjusting the temperature accordingly. The sensors can read the hair temperature up to 2,500 times in a single styling session, but neither the current temperature (nor any changes to the temperature) are shown on the display. Remington’s 'OPTIheat' technology targets heat where your hair most needs it, which delivers genuine long-lasting results and the PRO+ setting keeps the temperature at a responsible 185°C to protect your hair. The use of steam opens the hair follicle. This lets moisture in while straightening or curling and makes steam straighteners typically less harsh and drying, particularly on curly or more delicate hair types. Our models were impressed with how glossy and defined their hair looked after using the Revamp Progloss Steamcare and after a fortnight of use, many said their hair felt softer and seemed to be in better condition overall. There was also a noticeable improvement in how long fresh colour lasted on hair when using these straighteners. The ceramic floating plates have sensors which monitor heat 250 times a second – 2.5 faster than the Dysons – to help protect your hair and minimise damage. The 2.7 metre cord is long enough not to be irritating and the 360°C swivel feature, combined with the wishbone-shaped handle, make this tool a winner on ergonomics. Side note: the rounded tip is perfect for curling as well as straightening.

It takes the concept of the original Babyliss models and gives it a modern twist. Floating ceramic plates infused with keratin, argan and coconut oils, as well as ionic technology, help create a glossy, smooth finish. It uses so-called “intelligent heat control” to regulate the temperature across these plates and reduce hair damage. You can then choose from one of six temperatures (150ºC, 170ºC, 190ºC, 210ºC, 220ºC and 230ºC) and from one of three modes ( No Steam, Low Steam and High Steam). The straighteners will then automatically switch off after an hour.

Ceramic Hair Straighteners, 210 Degree Heat - Remington | CPC

If you share your straighteners with someone else, Remington has catered for that too. There is the option to move the mode to StyleAdapt2, a second profile that means someone else can personalize the straightener to their hair type without overriding your settings. This straightener doesn’t have a swivel cord, but the cord is long enough not to get in the way and, besides, the way this straightener felt on our hair, it was hardly noticeable. Trust us. The 'Ultimate Glide' ceramic coated plates do exactly what it says on the tin. They glided effortlessly over our hair and its possible this is the smoothest straightener we’ve ever used. It felt nothing short of professional and, despite the lower price point, should be considered luxury. There was absolutely zero snagging, making this the most comfortable straightener on this list too.

Details

Pros: Compact yet powerful; cord-free design allows for more freedom of movement; making creating complex hair styles easier; USB-C charger This hair straightener has a function that sets the temperature to 185C, which the brand says helps create healthy and shiny hair minus the guilt from daily styling. It's designed to target heat where the hair needs it most and Remington says the results should last up to 24 hours, too. The hot plates are ceramic-coated and “ultra-smooth” to avoid snagging and are supposed to deliver 5x smoother results than your standard ceramic straighteners. It also has nine heat settings, going up to 230C. On paper, it also doesn’t appear to offer much versatility in terms of temperature settings but this is the same across the entire GHD range because 185°C is, according to the brand, the optimum temperature to achieve maximum styling ability with minimal hair damage. It’s also a shame that GHD has relied on an older version of its dual-zone sensor technology, taken from the mid-range GHD Gold, instead of the ultra-zone technology seen on the hair brand’s flagship model, the Platinum Plus (below). In reality, this seemingly means very little to the performance of the Unplugged, and its ability to protect our hair while styling. Certainly not to a noticeable extent. Yet when paying a premium price, you expect premium technology. Our testers liked using the Pro+ function, as it didn’t overheat the hair but was still effective at styling. It left hair shinier and feeling “silky smooth”, with all of the panel agreeing that their hair looked healthier after using the straighteners. The variable temperature functions made it suitable for those with different hair types and our testers were happy with the heat-up time. The styler was lightweight and most agreed that one swipe was enough to produce satisfactory results. Key Specifications
