Power isn’t normally promoted or documented as it is a small part of the toothbrushing experience. More power doesn’t necessarily equal a better clean. Your total brushing time and technique have a big part to play. It is not overly noisy when compared to other electric toothbrushes. If you are moving from a manual toothbrush you may notice more vibration and noise, however you will shortly get used to this. How do I change cleaning modes? Given that this icon only lights up when the mode is selected, it is hard to tell, but the Genius 9000 does offer a Tongue Cleaning mode that the Smart 6 does not. Whilst not essential, it would be nice if Oral-B included some form of smartphone stand with the 4000.

Another small but significant thing to remember is; put the brush in your mouth before powering on and changing modes otherwise the toothpaste might go flying across the room. The toothbrush comes with several different modes that can be cycled through using the button. Daily Clean is the standard every day mode and from there you can keep your gums happy with the Gum Care massaging setting and also the Sensitive setting, for a gentler brush. You can find much more detail on each mode and how they compare in our article, Oral-B cleaning modes explained. The Oral-B Smart 4 4000 uses the 3D Oscillating rotating method of action which is good. There is evidence that this cleans better than a manual toothbrush. The Oral-B Pro 4000 oscillates at 40,000 oscillations and 8,800 pulsations per minute which is comparable with more expensive electric toothbrushes in the Oral-B range. It also comes with 2 different brush heads: Crossaction and sensitive. Both these brush heads are very useful. Brush HeadsDoes this Smart 4 have the ability to turn off the timer? If not, which brush should I be looking for? If you are going to offer smart features you need to encourage use and a smartphone stand would have been helpful in this case, to give the phone a home rather than the user having to hold it or place it on a work surface. Despite the criticisms of the way in which the cleaning modes are presented, I do love the clean that an Oral-B brush offers. Studies have suggested Oral-B’s oscillating and rotating technology is superior, but there are studies that side with Sonicare. It has not been designed to be easily repaired by yourself. Trying to replace parts like the battery will likely break the brush. This makes it more likely to be discarded rather than repaired if broken.

The Pro 3 3500 offers the features we regard as essential (a pressure sensor and a timer) at an affordable price. Several other people remarked that they were happy to find that the toothbrush is compatible with Oral-B toothbrush heads across the range – good to know if you’ve got a stash of heads waiting to be used (you can still make use of them with your new toothbrush). You have to stand in front of your smartphone when brushing and can’t really move as the brush movements need to be seen by the camera. There is no denying that this brush cleans the teeth and mouth well. It offers a pretty decent battery life, whilst also looking fairly good and feeling solid and slim in hand. The Smart 4 uses a handle design that has been tried, tested and perfected over many years and I really can’t find any obvious faults with it. It is well built and solid in hand. The idea behind this connectivity is to encourage you to brush for the right amount of time and evenly. If you activate it often, don’t worry all that much, over time you will learn and avoid doing lasting damage to your teeth. Just imagine if you didn’t have it... Interestingly, despite the similar design, the Smart 6 is actually part of a range of brushes that includes the Smart 4 and 5 that sit below the Genius range.

If you activate it often, don’t worry all that much, over time you will learn and avoid doing lasting damage to your teeth. Just imagine if you didn’t have it… Both do a job and give a home to brush heads, but the 9000 is a neater and more desirable solution. There is not much difference in the size and weight all told, only a few grams but sit them side by side and we think that most would prefer the in-hand feeling of the Smart 5. The idea behind this connectivity is to essentially be a little like having a dentist or hygienist looking over your shoulder saying good, bad, brush for longer, you missed a bit. It is about education for better cleaning rather than telling you that you have got it all wrong. The Oral-B Smart 4 4000 also comes with a 2 year warranty as standard that can be increased by one year to 3 years by registering for it online 2) Mechanism of action : Oral-B Smart 4 4000 3D Oscillating RotatingThis isn’t to say those features aren’t useful for some people. But, we have learnt that most people would rather save a bit of money, than have lots of features they may not use, making the Pro 3 3500 a perfect fit. One of the biggest differences is that the Pro 2 2000, which is the more premium model offers an extra cleaning mode.

Whilst the Genius is the premium brush it offers inferior battery life. Our testing has confirmed that the 9000 offers 12 days of usage time compared to the 18 days on the Smart 6.

ThePro 600 offers 8,800 oscillations and 20,0000 pulsations whilst the 2000 offers 9,900oscillations and 45,000 pulsations. Aside from the aforementioned 2 brush heads, the Smart 4 comes with a brush head stand included in the box. This is a moulded piece of plastic that clips around the charging stand that is also provided. So, both models come with a place to store brush heads, but the compartment with the 9000 is better than the stand offered with the Smart 6. Sealed inside, these parts are protected from water and moisture. This means that the brush is water resistant and can be rinsed under a tap and used in a shower.
