Allowing generators to run for a while to warm up before connecting can sometimes alleviate this problem, but it is better to buy a generator with the technology to provide a smooth surge-free electrical supply. The available power from continental hook-up points will often be less than the UK and a supply as little as 5A or 6A is common. The fridge/freezer will obviously be on, we may also want to use the electric oven and possibly the shower.
