Throughout the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November and December 2022, many TikTokers used the song as the sound [6] for their World Cup-related content, amassing roughly 404,500 videos using it. Many YouTubers and streamers reacted to the song once it dropped, such as Kai Cenat who portrayed enjoyment. A video of Cenat's reaction to the song was posted by TikToker [4] belguim.fifa on November 7th, 2022, gaining roughly 30.5 million plays and 3.6 million likes in two months (shown below, left). Around the same time, memes about the song started to surface, like one video uploaded on November 12th, 2022, by TikToker [5] daniboy_032 that compared the song for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil to Speed's song, gaining roughly 22.9 million plays and 2.6 million likes in two months (shown below, right). @belguim.fifa What is your country ? 🇧🇪 @ishowspeed #foot #siuuuu #speed #react #football #foryou ♬ World Cup – iShowSpeed

After the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in mid-December 2022, IShowSpeed's "World Cup" song continued to trend in memes on TikTok as creators started to specifically isolate his line, "Let's play football." On December 20th, 2022, TikToker [9] lovely.boyfriend posted a video using the Revive app and the So Wake Me Up Dog, making it seem like the dog was singing the lyrics. Over the course of 17 days, the video received roughly 18,100 plays and 1,000 likes (shown below, left). Soon after, on December 22nd, 2022, TikToker [10] unlimitedbounty1 posted a sped-up version of the audio with Leandro singing the lyrics, gaining roughly 820,600 plays and 67,500 likes in 15 days (shown below, right). @lovely.boyfriend Let's Play Football😌 #dog #random #idkwhattopost ♬ World Cup – iShowSpeed Olivia, a pioneer for equal access to football for young girls said of the launch: “I want every girl to have the opportunity to play football, just like boys. I think the #LetGirlsPlay campaign is a fantastic way to drive the equal access change and allow girls like me to feel supported, encouraged and given confidence to play football at every possible opportunity.” Only 63 per cent of schools currently offer girls’ football in PE lessons and our ambition, as seen in the women’s and girls’ Inspiring Positive Change strategy, is to have 75 per cent of schools providing equal access to football for girls in PE lessons by 2024. unlimitedbounty1 #CapCut #worldcup #meme #sowakemeupwhenitsalloverdog #sowakemeup #fyp #parati #insano ♬ Gay if you use this audio – NulldonbraGoing into January 2023, TikToker [10] unlimitedbounty1's sped-up sound [11] gained over 1,900 videos with many of them gaining thousands of plays. Various Examples FA director of women’s football, Baroness Sue Campbell, said of the campaign: “Momentum is building as next summer’s UEFA Women’s EUROs gets ever closer, but we do not want to wait until then to inspire and empower others to help create equal access to playing football at school. Currently, only a third of girls aged 5-18 participate in football every week, and we want to change that. Now is the time to drive a far-reaching ambition to open up the game in every way to girls and the Let Girls Play campaign allows parents and teachers to play a huge role in joining us in this commitment.” To coincide with International Day of the Girl, we've launched a new campaign – Let Girls Play - which supports our strategic ambition to give all girls equal access to play football in school by 2024.

The campaign is one that’s very close to my heart and something I am extremely passionate about when it comes to providing equal access to football for young girls. When I started my journey in football, I had no other choice but to play in a local boys’ team and I wasn’t offered the opportunity to play football in school during PE lessons. This has progressed hugely over the last few years, and I’m proud to be part of The FA’s #LetGirlsPlay campaign which will really make a difference to the young girls like me who just want to play football.”
