The characters were interesting and well-written, but I didn't feel like there was enough there to really connect with them. In an alternate reality, Fiona and Miles arrive in Berlin, but they find out Briola Tech doesn't exist and it looks like someone is making sure they can't leave the city. Out of all this closely observed behaviour in a small Irish seaside holiday resort she produces a narrative which makes you gasp often and is riveting always.
