DS2500- Despite technically being a race pad, the DS2500 has very good manners, and are by far the best in this area out of the Ferodo DS line of pads. They have more than ample cold bite and as long as they are bedded-in properly, the 2500 typically doesn’t make any noise. When they do, it is a small squeak or chirp on the tail end of a stop. They are no harsher on discs than typical street pads. They The DS2500 does have a very high max operating temperature though. It's extremely rare that anyone will fade it. What happens more often, as others in this thread have noted, is that it starts to burn up very rapidly when it gets ridiculously hot. Fortunately, that is a nice/gentle failure mode, and doesn't end badly (vs. the pad giving up all mu and you not having a brake pedal when you step on it...which is not a gentle failure mode!).

I was under the impression that DS2500's were Reg 90 but obviously every day is a schoolday somebody better tell AP. I promise you that if you have an accident and it comes to light that you dont have road legal pads (or road legal anything for that matter...) you are going to be in hot water. Granted it depends on the severity of the collision as to the level of detail that the investigation will go into, but you're a braver man than I if you are prepared to take that risk. I can't go into detail but I am very close to this sort of information and rest assured that people do get caught out by things like this all time. And do end up in serious trouble. Agree with it or not, its the law. Ferodo Racing Brake Pads are designed and sold for off-road use only. They contain copper, and it is up to the owner to determine their fitness, suitability, and legality for the environment in which they intend to run them. This isn't a new issue, it's widely known that DS2500/DS3000 aren't road legal. If you go to the performance section of Demon Tweeks, under pads - they dont even list DS2500/3000, only DS Performance - you have to switch to the motorsport section. It has nothing to do with the setup, be it OEM, BBK, etc etc - it's all about the compound of the pad. R90 homologated pad sets must be supplied in axle sets in tamper proof boxes, which must carry clear details of the R90 approval, including the approval code and main vehicle applications

DS3.12- DS3.12 has the greatest max operating temp and fade resistance of any pad in the Ferodo lineup. On our dyno we took this compound through repeated series of stops over 1600°F with no fade, and we’re unaware of anyone ever fading this compound in real-world use. Reg90 covers does however cover a multitude of requirements stopping power when cold / temp range being one of many, its a little like some of the very advanced brake fluids not getting classed as Dot5 - they may only be "Dot4" and massively outperform the best Dot5 fluids but they might not meet only one of the range of criteria that qualifys it as Dot5 such as freezing temperature. DS1.11- The DS1.11 has a lower mu than the DS3.12 at all temperatures and can be characterized as a moderate mu pad vs. other endurance racing compounds. They require more pedal force than the DS3.12, and they have a slightly declining torque curve as temperatures rise. As they get hotter and you dive deeper into a turn, you may feel like you need to push a little harder on the brake pedal to elicit the same response (which is a feel many drivers actually prefer). Some drivers feel that the DS1.11 is more controllable on street tires than DS3.12 since ABS cannot be activated as easily. However there are a few countries we do not ship to, some of these include: Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Russia, Nigeria, Macedonia, Syria, Ukraine, Lebanon. Why is postage on bulky items to some countries expensive compared to some other companies ? You can be confident that our high performance brake pads undergo rigorous testing and development, from laboratory and dynamometer testing cycles to race circuit and road trials.I just posted something about this topic over in the M2 forum...everything below applies with the e90 chassis. I wrote: The brake pad manufacturer (Ferodo) has the responsibility for assembling physical data on the parts. The manufacturer must then (if licensed to do so, as in Ferodo’s case) complete a series of prescribed vehicle tests on the target vehicle and submit them to one of the European bodies appointed to issue R90 approvals. Baseline comparative tests on the OE components are done at the same time.

Those pads which fit pre-1999 models and models which are used exclusively outside of the EU do not require R90. The former cases are covered by the older KBA approval system, the latter by any current legislation in the respective markets. This second category covers the FDSE sub-range. DS1.11- DS1.11 also has an outstanding max temp and fade resistance, just not quite as high as 3.12. We’re not aware of anyone who has faded them, and most people differentiate between the DS1.11 and DS3.12 based on feel. Please keep in mind that Ferodo classifies all three of these compounds as race compounds, not road compounds. DS1.11- DS1.11 is produced using many of the same ingredients as DS3.12 and carries a similar price tag. DS3.12- The DS3.12 has low to moderate cold bite. You do need to give yourself a little extra space on the first couple stops when they are cold. As with any higher mu race pads, they will wear your discs significantly faster than a road pad when run cold. They

If the tests results demonstrate that the replacement pad is within 15% of the OE pad for all performance parameters and meets set requirements for pad physical properties, an R90 code will be issued. This process is known as homologation.
