On the day of her funeral, more than 20,000 people lined the streets of Paris to witness the procession, and the French government honored her with a 21-gun salute, making Baker the first American woman in history to receive French military honors. The resilience skills we teach in our courses come from two decades of research and comprise a comprehensive model that has been proven in multiple studies (including two randomized-control trails) to improve quality of life even for people experiencing extreme distress. Jocelyn’s dedication proved Legacy Overhead Door to be more than just a name, rather a company committed to everlasting partnerships, doing our best, going above and beyond, regardless of the outcome.

Kristin’s resilience training programs have been validated in four studies (including two randomized-controlled trails) with researchers for the Duke Clinical Research Institute, published in peer-reviewed journals, and proven to promote clinically significant improvement in key resilience measures, including distress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and self-efficacy. In April 1975, Baker performed at the Bobino Theater in Paris, in the first of a series of performances celebrating the 50th anniversary of her Paris debut. Numerous celebrities were in attendance, including Sophia Loren and Princess Grace of Monaco, who had been a dear friend to Baker for years. Just days later, on April 12, 1975, Baker died in her sleep of a cerebral hemorrhage. She was 68. That's where we come in. Resilience is as beneficial during the best of times as it is during the worst.

Peach cobbler — she knew it was my absolute favorite," Delk Adams told TMRW. "She would have it coming out of the oven as soon as we got there." For Jocelyn Delk Adams, baking is a ritual to honor her family's roots. Courtesy Audrie Dollins

As part of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015, all UN Member States adopted a 15-year plan to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, for short. The 17 goals and 169 targets form the basis of a critical call to action to “end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere.” On February 15, 2019 Jocelyn answered her call to Heaven. Eternal joy and memories of her strength perseverance and her smile that lit up the room will stay in our hearts forever. Baker was born Freda Josephine McDonald on June 3, 1906, in St. Louis, Missouri. Her mother, Carrie McDonald, was a washerwoman who had given up her dreams of becoming a music-hall dancer. Her father, Eddie Carson, was a vaudeville drummer. He abandoned Carrie and Josephine shortly after her birth. Carrie remarried soon thereafter and would have several more children in the coming years. Emotional intelligence, which is the ability to identify, understand, process, and utilize your emotions. Not only does emotional intelligence allow you to stay calm, clear, and in control during stressful times, it also gives you empathy. Study upon study has shown that emotional intelligence is the single biggest predictor in professional success. It is more important than education, skill set, experience, or even IQ.In the previous blog, we saw that sustainability comes from the practice of “nachhaltigkeit”, a German term coined in 1713. Except in technical articles, the word sustainability was rarely used until 1972, when a then-leading magazine published a series of articles entitled Blueprint for Survival. This series, which involved more than 30 scientists, recommended that we should live in small, de-industrialized communities to help prevent a breakdown of society. In this series, the meaning of sustainability was much broader than its original, 18 th century usage: suggesting a change in lifestyle, the implementation of population controls. better management of natural resources, and the establishment of “no-growth” economies. Sustainability is the process of living within the limits of available physical, natural, social, and cultural resources in ways that allow all living things —not just humans — to thrive long into the future. In 2002, the report from the Earth Summit on Sustainable Development prescribes the need to “promote the integration of the three components of sustainable development—economic development, social development and environmental protection—as interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars” (1 p.8) Trust. Perhaps more importantly, we believe it is critical that people (including teens and younger children) trust themselves to make good decisions, handle responsibility, and be their own best advocates. The key to instilling a sense of self-trust and self-efficacy is to help kids tune into their own "Inner Wisdom," which is the term we use to describe the inner voice or gut intuition that guides us in caring for ourselves. We teach skill sets to tune into Inner Wisdom so that both adults and children can trust themselves.

Perhaps most importantly, however, Baker did work for the French Resistance, at times smuggling messages hidden in her sheet music and even in her underwear. For these efforts, at the war’s end, Baker was awarded both the Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Honour with the rosette of the Resistance, two of France’s highest military honors. Children

When I arrived the following day to celebrate the opening of envelopes with the students, the Mat’s HR manager was waiting in my office. The following 10 minutes ended my employment.
