I hadn't considered that "hangry" is not just feelings before you've eaten but how you feel after you've eaten. When you’re so hungry it feels like your stomach is eating itself and there is a vat of jumbo-sized fried food staring down at you, you lose all sense of rationality.

The tips weren't really new but a nice summary reminder of things we know we should do and hopefully will now focus on doing some of them. Studies have revealed that being hangry-level hungry not only impairs mood, it can also impair judgment and performance, increase impulsivity and even aggression towards others (see below for my list of studies! But how that "increased aggression" is expressed is highly dependent on a number of factors, including our situation (work versus home), our culture (social acceptability of verbalising anger differs across different cultures) and our own unique nature.

This books gives the reader questions to ask themselves about their eating habits, wanting the reader to also talk with their doctors about certain factors such as low vitamin D or other health conditions. Albers truly spoke to my soul when she shares insights such as how snacking to feel full instead of trying to take the edge off of hunger can sabotage weight-loss plans, as can eating to avoid doing something (such as work) or to avoid doing something you think you shouldn't do something (such as take a nap, even though you're exhausted, because you're an adult and have adult things to do! I was just feeling like I needed to buckle down and start a serious diet as I've gained 30lbs during a stressful period of life. The premise for this book really caught my attention and I immediately jumped on the chance to read the first look and hopefully win it.If not addressed through lifestyle changes or medical intervention, these may progress to type 2 diabetes, a serious chronic health condition. It was laid out into sections and was bold-ed and italicized nicely to where I could skim over some parts that I already knew about or that didn’t necessarily apply to me and focus on some parts that I wanted. The good news: when we make better decisions about food, we think more clearly, connect better in our relationships, and improve our performance. Hanger Management is the book that can help you break this cycle and create healthy habits that fuel and empower you. So if you notice that you and your partner bicker in that period between getting home from work and eating dinner, it might be helpful to bust out a small dish of unsalted nuts, some hummus and veggie sticks or grainy crackers.
