An amazing resource for schools, teachers, libraries and even parents/carers to teach children their individual rights and encourage self expression and empathy.

To celebrate Born Free’s Year of the Lion in 2016, the awesome animal charity is releasing fantastic new editions of their exciting animal rescue stories, packed with cool wildlife photos and animal facts to sink your teeth into. The story of Elsa remains fascinating fifty years on, even if its familiarity lessens some of its impact.

In October, we launched ‘Saving Meru’s Giants’, our ambitious programme to protect elephants and giraffes of Meru, including the deployment of our de-snaring Twiga Team. On a different topic, the Adamsons are kind of racist - the scene in which the author complains about how her black cook can't make a Christmas dish according to her exact instructions served no purpose to the story other than unintentionally portraying her as a bigot.

Born Free USA successfully encouraged the US government to list the polar bear as ‘threatened’ under the US Endangered Species Act and prohibit the import of bear ‘trophies’ from hunting. Each picture is created by a different artist, which is very interesting and adds to the books intriguing factor.pick up a bookRecord that you have found a book with a Born Free ID on the inside cover and feature in the book's travel history. With our support, a small group of cheetah were successfully relocated from South Africa to Malawi’s Liwonde National Park, 20 years after local extinction. Like you, we are horrified by the escalating violence and the civilian death toll in Gaza, Israel and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

The tale of Elsa the lion, as portrayed in the 1974 TV series Born Free, was my favourite childhood story. We funded accommodation, food and medical treatment for 18 brave gorilla rangers and their families, driven from their homes by armed militia in Kahuzi Biega National Park, DRC. Their dedication is compelling to read and observe, truly extra ordinary couple who dedicated their life for the wild.

I also understand this was about trying to introduce a lioness to the wild, but there was alot of "we saw a cobra, george shot it", "there was a fly, we shot it", with some of the animal killings feeling pointless. The author captures not only Elsa's story, but the Adamson's love of Africa, the people, the animals, the land itself. The UK’s new Animal Welfare Act launched; we continued to lobby for an end to the use of all wild animals in circuses. George successfully manages to kill the lion and he and Joy are able to share a special holiday with Elsa, where they introduce her to the Indian Ocean. We helped the Kenya Wildlife Service move 29 threatened elephants from Shimba Hills to Tsavo East National Park. Police investigation found Adamson's wounds were too sharp and bloodless to have been caused by an animal, and concluded she had been murdered. I also like that due to each Right having a different illustrator, each page is different from the last which means the reader is exposed to a variety of different ways to illustrate a book but also keeps the reader engaged and want to explore each page in depth.
