Perfect for bedtime reading for those who ask 'why what when where and how', it will quench your child's thirst for unusual facts. This book is for both young people and their adults, and I hope they will take away slightly different things. Can you tell us about your path into writing, and why you focus on writing books about science for children and young people? Enough of this fascinating stuff – let’s get on with helping you find presents children will enjoy finding under the tree on Christmas Day. Full of fascinating facts and awesome illustrations, my daughter and I have barely scratched the surface of this large book that has almost 100 questions and answers. Jay Blades and his merry men and women work their magic and Lizzy is made as new as ever as she is passed to the youngest member of the family.

Isabel Thomas - ReadingZone

Top-notch nonfiction from a profoundly accomplished author, it’s the sort of book that could ignite lifelong scientific curiosity. Full of insightful facts and curious conundrums, this is the perfect present for any inquisitive child. This book would suit a wide range of ages, from five-year-olds who ask a million questions a day themselves, to 11-year-olds who are curious and ready to absorb the information and facts. He delights in finding weird and wonderful connections and is skilled in thinking like an eight-year-old too!

A look at traditions in other countries is fascinating, such as the Norwegians hiding all the brooms in the house on Christmas Eve, a centuries-old custom dating back to the time when it was believed witches and evil spirits would be out looking for brooms to ride on. It is not always an easy life – inserting a tube into Geronimo the alpaca’s mouth was, to say the least, tricky – but it all goes well and children of eight-plus who love animals would be delighted to be given this book for Christmas. Every time I speak to children and introduce myself as the author of 200+ books, I immediately tell them a secret. Other than some fascinating insights into our world, what would you like young readers to take from your book?
