Description

It’s no different than the Romans and gladiators and feeding them to the lions and everyone watching in the Colosseum.

However, halfway through Baby Teeth started to make more progress into understanding Hanna’s behaviour which is where it got more interesting. It’s normal sadomasochistic urges and fantasies that everyone has a certain degree of — the desire to think about or imagine hurting or being hurt — combined with normal exhibitionist and voyeuristic feelings, the interest in what is hidden and secret. I often wonder if I’m reading the same book but I think it’s just different things work for different people. But in the thick of motherhood's exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter - she doesn't behave like most children do. It was all so truncated and the answers we really wanted – the why behind Hannah (sociopath or psychopath) were never answered. She’d practiced, alone in her room, but the bugs fell from her mouth, frighteningly alive, scampering over her skin and bedclothes. Because this novel, like the complex task of parenting itself is rich in questions and light on answers. She used to dress up for Alex's office parties and loved the way his lustful eyes followed her around as she sipped wine and chatted, enjoying the rare company of other adults.

And, despite the fact that he said his normal first words, mama, dada, bubu, maybe an errant Wiggles lyric or two, he's not really much of a talker. But her dark mind played on, resistant to more-comforting distractions in the weeks since her surgery. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood, and Kevin’s horrific rampage, in a series of startlingly direct correspondences with her estranged husband, Franklin. The psychological aspect of the book is done really well and is explained that even this C student in Psychology can understand.

He’s the only person who understands her, and all Hanna wants is to live happily ever after with him. She pressed her palm against her tingling abdomen and made herself smile as the new doctor gusted in, grayer than the last one. The more Fox dismisses her fears, the more Blythe begins to question her own sanity, and the more we begin to question what Blythe is telling us about her life as well. Especially when there’s a breathtaking vista, a full-service chef and housekeeper, a cozy fire to keep you warm, and others to keep you company.
