However, there's judder when setting OLED Motion Pro to 'High', but it's judder-free on 'Low' or 'Medium'. Like other OLEDs, there are faint vertical lines in near-dark scenes, but you'll only notice them if you really look for them. It's the backlit LCD TV where the colours stay true at more severe angles, while it's the OLED that proves to be the best for screen luminance once again. It’s the best image quality I’ve reviewed on any LG OLED, and right up there with some of the best-looking images I’ve seen on any TV.

T3 Awards LG G1 (OLED65G1) review: the best OLED TV at the T3 Awards

The three link options along the top of the screen in particular feel like they're been given more weight than they really warrant. The G1 has the new evo panel, allowing it to get brighter, especially in HDR, so highlights pop more.

You can even choose to play artworks on the screen in a low power mode when you're not watching it, further justifying the Gallery name. inputs (40Gbps of bandwidth), a headphone out, Digital optical out, an Ethernet socket, satellite and aerial inputs, three USB, and a CI+ 1.

If you're a gamer, the LG is also the better choice as it has lower input lag and supports FreeSync VRR, which the Sony TV doesn't. specification and so can support all the latest features of 4K HDR playback at 120Hz, automatic low latency mode (ALLM) switching for faster gaming response times, and variable refresh rates (VRR). Now in its fifth generation, LG’s mighty Alpha 9 processor optimises sound and vision for spectacular results. Second, the very brightest parts of HDR pictures – lamps, streetlights, sunlight reflecting off glass, etc – have a slightly more luminous quality to them. It's fantastic for dark room viewing because it has a near-infinite contrast ratio and perfect black uniformity. We uploaded the initial brightness measurements and uniformity photos for the Accelerated Longevity Test. We’re onto the α9 Gen 4 AI processor and new features include Scene Detection and Object Enhancement. If you want a slightly brighter image, set the Picture Mode to 'Standard', OLED Pixel Brightness and Contrast to their max, and Auto Dynamic Contrast and Peak Brightness on 'High'.

There's also a new Fine Tune Dark Areas option for VRR gaming that provides a counter-measure to the tendency of OLED TVs to exhibit raised black levels when playing VRR images. For VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) it supports the standard version, along with Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium. The Samsung gets significantly brighter, so it can better handle glare in a bright room, but it has worse picture quality and doesn't look as good as the LG in a dark room. Start paying for your goods from the first month and pay the same amount every month with a standard interest rate charge. You still get the point-and-press feature, like a computer mouse, and it has a mic for voice control. It can even apply 'rules' to specific objects or areas of specific content within any overall image, creating a more three-dimensional and natural effect than would be possible by just applying the processing rules equally across the whole image. Not always blow-your-socks-off brighter, perhaps, but enough to deliver a noticeable lift to high dynamic range sources in two key ways.

LG G1 OLED Evo review (OLED65G16LA, OLED55G16LA, OLED77G16LA)

It may not be bright enough for a room with a ton of lights, but it should be fine for moderately-lit environments. The only aspect that lets the side down are the covers for the back panel, which feel (and look) flimsy when applied. This sort of local light control just isn't possible with LCD TVs - not even those that use Mini LED technology. See our recommendations for the best OLED TVs, the best 4k TVs, and the best TVs for watching movies. Still, watching La La Land and Interstellar in the mode produces slightly more accurate colours and ekes out a smidge more brightness over the Home Cinema picture mode. Its new design delivers on the Gallery concept even more successfully than 2020’s models, and though the new evo panel doesn’t push brightness quite as far as we’d hoped it might, it still yields consistently spectacular results.
