There are plenty of cutting compounds for sale. The main difference between products is how abrasive they are. Here are a few popular compounds:

Press and hold down your finger on the screen where you want to paste and select Paste to paste the text. Practice cutting and pasting textBut it really works well and requires very little effort. Even applying it by hand brought up the old, tired paint with minimal rubbing and using a few passes with the machine created a shine which hadn’t been seen since the car rolled out of the factory. It didn’t make such a noticeable difference to rough rattle can paint or the Nissan’s new clearcoat but the scratches still disappeared easily. If you want to apply the cutting compound to restore paint shine and remove oxidisation, the job is much bigger. It’s best to use a buffing machine rather than applying by hand for large areas. You should also work in sections from the top down, completing each section before moving on. Press and hold down on any text with your finger and then let go. Upon letting go, a menu should appear on top-right of the screen (shown to the right) that lets you cut. Highlight the text you want to cut and press your finger on Cut to cut. Pasting text Take extra care using it on corners and panel creases, where it’s easy to rub through the paint colour, revealing the metal beneath.

Monocrystalline Diamond Paste - This is the most common type of diamond paste and contains particles that have a long, flat shape and fewer cutting edges. Monocrystalline diamond paste is ideal for use on flat and even surfaces with fewer edges There’s no denying the value offered by the Simoniz products. This was one of the largest bottles in the test, yet it was the cheapest. We actually managed to find it for even less in Tesco with a Clubcard deal, but the price quoted here is the ‘normal’ amount. If you can’t quite stretch that far and only need to remove a few light marks from undergrowth, the Simoniz is great value and smells nicer than T-Cut.Unlike the original T-Cut, the Colour Fast claims to have ‘3-in-1’ ability which takes away the surface layer of paint, fills scratches with a coloured compound and then applies a layer of protective wax. Diamond Paste Grit is graded by grit size from coarse to fine. The grit is measured in microns as follows: Diamond grit with 25 microns to 90 microns is the coarsest and is used for removing and cleaning residue from the surface. Diamond grit with 6 microns to 24 microns is suitable for smoothing and repolishing Diamond grit with 0.25 microns to 3 microns is the finest paste and is used for the final polishing and shining Cutting compounds are abrasive paintwork products and may not be suitable to use on all cars. For minor paintwork issues like light swirl marks and dull colour, you may be better starting off with car polish.

The cutting performance was good though, especially on our old paint. In fact it was a little too aggressive in places so we went easy with the machine polisher to avoid wearing through the top coat. You need to pay attention to make sure it doesn’t dry out on the fast-spinning machine pad too, or you could cause damage. T-Cut Color Fast A metal cutting paste or cutting fluid should be used when cutting or drilling metal. The primary reason is to offset or reduce the inevitable build up of heat. Heat is generateddue to both friction and energy lost whilst deforming the material. As air cooling alone is unlikely to be sufficient to prevent heat build up in both the tool and the work surface a drilling lubricant is required. Because excessive temperature can ruin the temper of the drill bit or the item being drilled it is important to prevent this happening. If nothing is in the clipboard nothing can be pasted, and the Paste option is grayed out. Something must be cut or copied before it can be pasted. Practice cutting and pasting text There are 10 colours to choose from and we found a grey which matched both the Land Rover and the modern metallic of the Nissan. It goes on to the paint easily but it struggled to ‘bite’ on our new paintwork. With some elbow grease it did manage to bring a shine on the dull paint and seemed to work reasonably well on the Nissan’s minor scratches too, but we are not convinced the colour of the liquid actually made any difference. Trying it on a patch of the Land Rover’s white roof paint didn’t change the colour or fill the scratches with grey, so we remain sceptical.Unlike some of the other products here it doesn’t claim to be anything other than a cutting paste, so you’ll have to add a layer of wax separately to keep the paint protected after using it.We liked the no-nonsense formula, and the price. T-Cut Original Rubbing compound can be applied by hand with a cloth or circular applicator pad, or with a polishing machine using a wool pad. For Chromebooks, or ChromeOS devices that have no mouse buttons, you can cut and paste text by following the steps below.

Both cutting fluids and pastes will have a lubricating effect. However their performance will depend on the quality of their ingredients. In particular the addition of superior extreme pressure or anti wear additives will greatly influence the effectiveness of either option. Highlight the text you want to cut by pressing down on the touchpad and while holding down dragging your finger in the direction you want to cut text. Cutting and polishing pastes are typically used to revive paint which has gone flat after being exposed to the sun or which has been aged with tiny scratches caused by washing, grit and general wear and tear. They can also be used to blend in new paint by matching the textures, or remove minor scrape damage from roadside thorns or careless parking.

CUT-IT metal cutting paste

You may need to wax the car regularly after cutting to protect the newly exposed paint and prevent it going dull. How to use it: Restoring the paint If you want to use a cutting compound to remove scratches and swirl marks in the paint, here’s what to do. Bear in mind that this works best on light, shallow scratches that are only in the top clearcoat. If you have had a bottle for years, the smell and colour of the liquid will be very familiar. What might be a surprise is how watery it seemed when you have a ‘fresh’ bottle. The scent, while familiar, is also a little overpowering at times.
