Overall they’re a great sounding if often unsubtle bunch, and you’ll soon find your favourites for spicing up builds, breakdowns, mix ins/outs and so on. Interaction Mode: The options available for the Interaction Mode will vary depending on both the Type of Controller as well as the control target of the currently selected assignment. For example, the Interaction Modes for the Play/Pause control (with Button set as the Type of Controller) are Toggle, Hold and Direct. The Interaction Modes for the Tempo control (with Button set as the Type of Controller) are Direct, Inc, Dec and Reset.Add...: This opens a drop-down menu with various options for adding new mappings to the Device list. Comment: Use this field to enter a comment for your assignment. This is useful for keeping an overview of what your mapping is doing at a user-specific level. Of course, nobody is going to buy this to use it simply as a standalone mixer, and the first good thing to say here is that the integration between standalone mixer use and Traktor is absolutely seamless. Comment: In this field you can enter a comment which is stored with the Control assignment. It appears in the Comment field of the Assignment Table as described before.

Assignment: This is the target section for the Control in TRAKTOR. The Assignment can be changed in the Mapping Details section as explained below.

Tech spec

Toggle: When you press and release the MIDI button or computer keyboard key, the TRAKTOR button becomes enabled. When you press and release it again, it becomes disabled again.

In-Port: This defines the MIDI input port for the selected mapping. It is set to All Ports by default and should be set to the MIDI input port value corresponding to your hardware MIDI controller or MIDI interface. Alternatively, you may select a virtual MIDI port if you use this for software MIDI routing between two applications on the same computer. In the next chapters we will explain how to handle your output levels depending on the type of mixing mode being used. 2. Setting up TRAKTOR for Internal Mixing Ergonomically, the Z2 is a tremendous success. Native Instruments should be really proud of what they’ve achieved when it comes to integrating the Z2’s brawn with the Traktor brain, because it looks like the Z2 should do a lot less than it actually does. It’s not the first DVS ‘hub’ mixer, of course, not even close – but to my grubby hands it feels the most streamlined and logical, and when comparing it to other mixers it seems somehow more elegant. Finally make sure to have set Classic as EQ Type under EQ/Filter Selection in TRAKTOR Preferences > Mixer, as this EQ model will leave the original audio signal unaffected. Do not choose the type Z ISO since this EQ model alters the original sound quality even when the knobs are in middle position. Set to value (Interaction Mode Direct): Choose a specfic value which is recalled when you hit the assigned button. The available range of numbers depends on the selected TRAKTOR control. Some controls only allow integers while others allow to define fractions.

Device Mapping

Note: A basic tutorial about using Modifiers can be found at the end of this article. Make sure you fully grasp the concept of Modifiers before using them, as Modifier mappings can become very complex and difficult to troubleshoot. Modifier Conditions are optional, so if you want to keep your mapping simple, you may ignore those fields and leave them blank. Control Behaviour and Assignment But here’s what I see to be the biggest potential group of users: people who already own some old-style DJ gear. Maybe you have a couple of turntables and an analogue mixer, or two old CDJs and the same.
