Lisa Ballantyne has written a first novel that is both moving and suspenseful; richly detailed, yet with the eerie simplicity of a parable." - Joyce Carol Oates, New York Times bestselling authorThe Guilty One POPS with magnetic characters, unparalleled humor, and a sympathetic protagonist with a hellavalot to prove. Protagonist cop Cal is already playing from behind professionally when he is thrown into a propulsive plot where heinous crimes from his past and present collide. Determined to slosh through the murky waters of his beleaguered reputation and personal self-doubts, Cal questions why he seems to be the focal point of where these crimes intersect, positing the question in his own mind and in the minds of others — just who exactly IS the guilty one here? Fleming, Mike Jr. (September 15, 2020). " 'Southpaw' Duo Jake Gyllenhaal & Antoine Fuqua To Re-Team On Tense Thriller 'The Guilty' ". Deadline Hollywood . Retrieved November 12, 2020. I've been listening to a lot of mystery/thrillers narrated by feminine sounding narrators. When I first listened to The Guilty One? I was delighted to hear the narrators voice! A masculine voice, and so fitting to the speech mannerisms of the MC.

Noel Fielding Almost Chokes Up Sending Two Bakers Home on 'The Great British Baking Show' "Pastry Week" Daniel Hunter has spent years defending lost causes as a solicitor in London. But his life changes when he is introduced to Sebastian, an eleven-year-old accused of murdering an innocent young boy. The film was streamed in 69 million households over the first month of its release, and was the top-watched film on the platform in 91 countries. [14] Reception [ edit ] A debut this novel explores the innocence vs. evil of children, a subject I'm always interested in reading about. My sincere thanks to William Morrow for providing this in e-galley format for my reading pleasure. Due to be published March 2013. I found this an engrossing read. It tells the story of a Sebastian, an 11 year old boy up on charges of murdering an 8 year old boy. Daniel, his lawyer, relates to the boy when he takes on the case. So the reader also gets the story of Daniel, his life as a foster child and his time with Minnie the foster mother who later adopted him and from whom he ended up estranged. The reason for this is not explained until fairly late in the book but I didn’t think there was any surprise about it.

The Guilty One” is a gripping psychological thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The story follows Detective Cal Farrell, who is hailed as a hero for stopping an active shooter, even though he can’t remember the event. As he struggles to recover his memories, he becomes entangled in a series of gruesome murders that seem to be targeting him. The ending was strong and unlike what I expected. Cal and Heather parted on good terms. She returned to her hometown to be with family while he snagged his dream job of working in the Crimes Against Persons section. As for Blye, he would face charges if he survived. Joe makes one last phone call to the journalist who had been nagging Joe all day to tell his side of the story—presumably to grant her an interview. As the movie ends, we hear soundbites of journalists declaring that LAPD detective Joe Baylor pled guilty to manslaughter. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for accepting my request to audibly read and review The Guilty One. Though Fuqua’s films haven’t shied away from the misdeeds of law enforcement — recall the showy, malevolent character that won Washington his Training Day Oscar — they’re usually juxtaposed with innocent, honest police. The Guilty only really has one “real” cop on screen at all; the rest are voices on the other end of the phone, or officers who aren’t irritated about their full-time work at the call center. The phone-only cast is impressive: Peter Sarsgaard, Riley Keough, Ethan Hawke, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Paul Dano all call in, as if this were a supersized episode of Frasier.
