Description

The wealthiest passengers were in first class, at the top of the ship. This was very luxurious, and there were cafés, a swimming pool, barber shop, squash courts and more. The Titanic sank on the 14th April 1912, killing over 1500 people. Around 62% of the passengers in first class survived, whereas only around 25% of the passengers in third class survived. Once the youngsters have finished coloring their ships, they can be cut out and added to the water to create an interesting, colorful poster for the classroom. 5. Funny Luggage Tags

The land where the shipyard used to be was renamed the ‘Titanic Quarter’ in 2001 and plans were put in place to renovate the area. A few years later, in 2005, it was announced that a museum would be built to commemorate the Titanic and act as a huge tourist attraction. The goal was to finish the project by 2012, as this would mark 100 years since the Titanic left on its maiden voyage. The ship was constructed in Belfast and set sail from Southampton on 10th April 1912, aiming to sail to America Label the parts of one of the most infamous ships to sail. This cross-section of the titanic worksheet details 18 different rooms and parts for your students to colour in and label. TheRMS ( Royal Mail Ship) Titanic ,a British passenger ship, was once known as the"unsinkable Titanic." But how did it get this name, which would later prove to be grossly inaccurate? The ship's builders said that they never claimed the ocean liner was "unsinkable". Instead, the myth is said to have arisen when an unidentified crew member made the overly-confident claim to a passenger that "God himself could not sink this ship." For this fun classroom activity, have the students color and cut out the Titanic and glue it to the center of a plain piece of posterboard, with extra room left at the bottom. When the Titanic set sail on 10th April 1912, they had no way of knowing that the self-styled 'unsinkable ship' would in fact sink some five days later before daybreak on 15th April 1912. There is plenty to be learnt from the Titanic still in modern times. The tragedy was greeted with a worldwide response to the loss of life, not to mention the questions that were asked about the failures that lead to the great ship's sinking. The Titanic can then be hung up, and whenever there’s a breeze, it looks like water is coming from the holes. 9. A Change of Scene When I was at primary school (many years ago) we learned to sing the folk song "Oh they built the ship Titanic". I remember rushing home to find out more about the event from my parents, looking up the Titanic in our encyclopedia. I was thrilled to find a lovely video version of the song which you'll find below. It's a great place to start! And I've put the words below the video if you want to sing along...

We've also included a completed Titanic layout picture, which can be used as a reference or teaching tool. Keep reading to learn some fascinating Titanic Belfast facts! The history behind the Titanic Belfast Or perhaps you would like another fun activity to try for your children to complete at home or in school, Well, our Titanic word search is the resource for you!

As the world's largest mobile man-made object at the time, the ship was considered an engineering marvel. At 882 feet long, ittook over three years to build and 600 tons of coal per day to power. The Titanic was the most celebrated ocean liner of its time but of course, it would prove to be sinkable.

Tiny holes should be made in the bottom, through which blue paper streamers can be threaded to depict water leaking from the ship!Just 100 metres from where the Titanic Belfast is now located is the spot where the ship’s hull was originally constructed. The whole area surrounding the building is drenched in history as, just off to the right, you will find the Harland and Wolff drawing office where the Titanic was originally designed and, to the left, is the Victoria Channel, where the ship first set sail. The Titanic had 20 lifeboats with a capacity of 1178 people which wasn't even enough to hold half of the passengers on board. This craft is simple and easy for any child. Turn an empty shoe box upside down, and trace and cut out three circles in its top, using an empty paper towel roll to trace the circle. Develops fine motor skills: Coloring requires kids to use small muscles in their hands and fingers, which can help them develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. The main Titanic Belfast building is a whopping 11,000 sq’m in size, with an underground car park that measures 14,000 sq’m and can hold up to 520 cars. The dimensions of the building are no accident but have been carefully planned so that it is exactly half the size of the RMS Titanic.
