CABG and endoscopic vein harvesting

Harefield Hospital is a world-famous heart and lung hospital. It is part of the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK, and among the largest in Europe. Its sister hospital in the trust is the Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea. It’s an exciting and fast-moving area of cardiac surgery, which research indicates gives better results than conventional methods.

Other cardiothoracic surgical centres in UK have started performing minimally invasive cardiac surgery over the last five years, usually either mitral or aortic valve surgery.one-centimetre incision, rather than a cut of about a metre. The vein extracted is then used as a graft in exactly the same way. Although minimally invasive procedures may not have a huge reduction on how long patients spend recovering in hospital following their surgery, the patients and the cardiologists caring for them certainly notice the difference afterwards. In terms of risks, statistically there is 0.05 per cent chance of a stroke, and a mortality risk of less than 2 per cent – and the promise of an excellent long-term outcome. Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement By 1813 limekilns and copper mills lay along the northern part of the canal, and there were coal wharves north of Moorhall. The industrial area continued to expand throughout the century, but away from the canal Harefield remained one of the few places in Middlesex where the ancient pattern of an agricultural village survived into the second half of the 19th century, mainly because of the absence of a main road or railway. Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust – and Harefield in particular – has been at the forefront of minimally invasive techniques, such as aortic and mitral valve repair surgery and replacement.

St Mary's Parish Church (off Church Hill) is Harefield's oldest building and an important focal point for the Harefield community. A priest is first mentioned in the manor of Harefield in the Domesday Book (1086). In the late 12th century the advowson was given to the Knights Hospitallers, although the Newdigate family later became patrons of the church. The church building has some medieval features, but was restored and altered in 1768, and again in 1841. [7] Sergeant Robert Edward Ryder VC (1895–1978), who served in World War I in the Middlesex Regiment, was born and is buried in Harefield. A blue plaque on The Old Workhouse marks his birthplace. J. Cotton, J. Mills, G. Clegg (1986) 'Archaeology in West Middlesex,' Echo Press, Loughborough. pp.29–31 The ancient Manor of Harefield was held by the Newdigate family from about 1440. The old Manor house, Harefield Place, adjacent to St Mary the Virgin church, was replaced in 1786, when a new mansion house was built at Harefield Lodge. The old 'Harefield Place' fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1813, whereupon the new Manor house became known as Harefield Place. It was sold by Charles Newdigate Newdegate in 1877. In 1938 it was acquired by the local authority to serve as a hospital. In 1959 the land was redeveloped and is now the Harefield Place Golf Club. The heart remains beating, removing the need to stop the heart during the procedure. This technology allows the surgeon to stabilise part of the heart and operate on the congested arteries. A significant advantage of these new vanguard of minimally invasive treatments, many of which use heart valves made from animal tissue rather than the conventional mechanical valves, is patients do not need to take blood thinning drugs for the rest of their lives. Kim Banner, another of We Love Coffee’s customers, lives just outside the zone and says she is currently playing a cat-and-mouse game with cameras. She told Local Democracy Reporting services there is currently a vandalised ULEZ camera near where she lives but wouldn’t give the location because she ‘doesn’t want to flag it’ in case it is repaired.

Neolithic remains have been found in the parish, as well as fossils in the chalk. Notwithstanding the ‘hare of Harefield’ shown in the picture above, the settlement’s name probably derives from the Old English words here (army) and feld (open space; field). The name may thus allude to an encampment by a Viking army during the Danish invasions of the 10th and early 11th centuries. During World War I, Harefield Park was used as an Australian military hospital. The bodies of the servicemen who died there were buried with full military honours within the graveyard of St Mary's Church; the area, which also included the ground where the Harefield Place building stood, became a military cemetery. [6]I had an old diesel, it was ok, it did the job. I drove it 16 miles a day, to and from work. But I had to sell it, I didn’t have a choice. I was the first surgeon in the UK to routinely use endoscopic vein harvest (EVH), introducing it to Harefield just over ten years ago. This enables the vein to be removed using a small Mr Gupta, who has been driving from his home in Langley to Harefield for four years, said: "I sold my car and I had to buy a new one. I didn’t want to.
