The great thing about making rice in the slow cooker is that it’s low maintenance and comes out perfectly every time. It’s a very simple recipe that anyone can perfect. If you want some extra fruit to go with your pudding, I have a couple of suggestions that I often enjoy having with it. The following are just a few of my favorites:

Butter– Just a teaspoon to butter the sides of the slow cooker. And if you are vegetarian or vegan you can use any approved oil or butter substitute. Are you using long grain or arborio rice ? Any other types of rice might not work as well or at all.So I decided to give it a try in my slow cooker and boy was I pleasantly surprised that it came out fantastically perfect. Ingredients Required: For most rice varieties, the standard ratio is 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of water, which you can adjust based on your desired quantity. Cook on high for about 1.5-2.5 hours. Stir the rice occasionally as it cooks but if you can’t, it will still fluff up nicely when it’s finished! Can I make rice pudding in the slow cooker? What a superb recipe dear, it seems so delicious as we were planning a trip today and we thought to cook something at home to bring with us to the trip to eat it later so I found your blog its I'm not gonna go in to all the kinds of rice there are. I have read (but not researched) that there are thousands. I like rice. But I don't care enough about it to research a thousand different kinds. I can tell you though, that for making rice in your slow cooker long grain rices work best. I don't know why and I don't know the science behind it...but they do.

Set your slow cooker to high heat. The old saying that rice should be cooked low and slow is true. Since slow cookers already make use of low temperatures to heat food gradually, however, the highest heat setting will still be considerably cooler than a conventional rice cooker. [9] X Research source I have had the paste before, too. I think it's because of the proportions. Rice seems to need exactly the right amount of liquid for it to cook properly. If you have 1 cup of rice, you need 2 cups of liquid, etc. It totally stinks when you're just trying to soak up the liquid at the end of a cooking cycle and you mis-eyeball the proportions.Storing: Transfer cooled rice to an airtight container and refrigerate. Cooked rice can last in the fridge for up to four days. When reheating, add a splash of water or broth to the rice. This will prevent it from drying out in the microwave or on the stovetop. For a more sophisticated touch, I like to call these deconstructed enchiladas. They have all the flavor of enchiladas in a comforting casserole. Re the meatballs - I never pre-cook mine - just drop them into the sauce, make sure they are covered and cook. I usually make my own meatballs - if I buy bought ones I cook them a little longer because they are usually firmer (and so take longer to be cooked all the way through). I usually cook on low for 7-8 hours. White Rice - A staple grain that's popular all around the world and is used in a wide range of dishes, from stir-fries to sushi rolls. In this recipe, white rice serves as the base for any dish you need it for. Of course, a lot of these extras will likely involve more work, but if you are happy with just the vanilla version, then you are still in for a treat.

I left raisins out of this recipe, but they will work just fine if you would like to add them. I recommend adding about half a cup to the standard recipe. Well, that’s up to you and your specific needs! If you’re looking for an appliance that can do it all , then get a programmable pressure cooker (or multi-cooker) but if you need something with just one specific function, you might want to consider getting a rice cooker or slow cooker. I made corn chowderearlier in the year. It was amazing, and one of the dishes I would make again in a hearbeat. that's not cheating, Julie! there are no rules---this is an appliance to make your life easier. I'm all about the easy. Stir in Parmesan Cheese – When the rice is finished, add in salt and parmesan cheese. Grated parmesan cheese will melt more smoothly and will make an amazing flavor. Keep in mind that white rice and brown rice are different kinds of rice. You can use this recipe for most white rice varieties. We like basmati and jasmine rice!
