Best response from NB is "i will ask the development team and see if we are still working ona fix for this and a new firmware will be made to combat this issue" that was said on 17 July and nothing more has been heard.

I sent it to Nextbase (after they first sent out a replacement cable which didn’t help) the problem turned out to be a broken connection on the usb connector. We supply memory for mobile phones and digital cameras specialising in a vast collection of SD Cards, Micro SD Cards and USB Flash Drives. Unfortunately the Series 2 Rear Cameras will not work with any other devices apart from the ones I have listed above.

You can see both front (above) and rear footage (below) that was recorded by the Nextbase 512GW and GWRC at the same time. This then allows the PC software to plot the location of the car on a map, which is a useful extra feature for proving where you were driving and at what speed to an insurer, should an accident happen. The 512GW (GPS WiFi) offers high-resolution video quality and a built-in WiFi system for easily accessing video clips on a smartphone. Nextbase dash cams are readily available from Halfords and are allegedly endorsed by the AA, so it’s no surprise that the specification and build make for a promising start.

The image quality of the 512GW is good in all kinds of different conditions including bright sunlight, rain and darkness. Once your phone is connected, you can view the feed from the camera(s) and also watch recorded clips. Like the 412GW, the 512 has a 3in screen with a resolution of 960×240 and uses touch-sensitive rather than physical buttons. This is handy since if your rear screen is curved and you don’t want to mount it in the middle, you can angle it to capture the right view.Compared to designs from Thinkware and DDPai which hug the windscreen and don’t obstruct the sun visors, the 512GW is hard to hide away behind a rear view mirror – at least in a standard hatchback. Having a dash cam in your car now makes more sense than ever, with discounts on your insurance and being able to prove an accident wasn’t your fault. I have just purchased nexbase 512gw front rear camera from Halfords and fitted it to an Audi A6 avant. This Rear Cam will record simultaneously with the Nextbase 512GW to record at full 1080p HD when connected onto a single micro SD card. The rear camera also offers good quality video, but it’s a shame this comes at the expense of quality at the front.

You can also rotate the display, should you want to mount the camera upside down – although the menu buttons stay where they are. GPS TO TRACK YOUR JOURNEY: The Nextbase 512GW features a GPS mount to record important location and speed data for your Dash Cam. The polariser certainly helps to make skies nice and blue, but doesn’t affect how much detail is captured. You can then view footage using the Nextbase Replay 3 software, available for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows as well as for macOS.With instant evidence to back up any insurance claim, insurance company can not charge fee with you if the evidence shows you are innocent. For added convenience, the Nextbase 512GW includes audio recording capabilities, allowing users to capture important details from both the video and audio perspective.

The biggest and most irritating issue I have with 512GW with rear cam is the need to switch off and switch on to cure a fault (this is Nextbase own advice). If the rear camera is not plugged in at power on, then none of this happens ie no PiP appearance at all - and this is as it should be. As demonstrated by the grab below, you might be able to read a plate in low light when you’re close to the vehicle in front, but passing cars tend to be quite blurry. The 512 GW Dash Cam can record at 1440p HD at 30 frames per second or 1080p at 60fps to ensure that even at fast speeds everything is still caught on camera, making it ideal for motorway driving. Works in conjunction with your front facing Nextbase 512GW Dash Cam, with both cams recording at full 1080p HD at 30 fps. This means you can track your journey on Google Maps and pinpoint exactly where an incident has occurred, which can be crucial in an insurance claim. It is designed to be connected to your 512GW using a 6m cable, which can be neatly hidden under your roof lining.
