For a base coat for lighter timbers, brush or roller on a thin coat of Hardwax Oil Ultra Natural. Leave it for 10 minutes and then slow buff with a soft pad to remove the excess. It may dry with patchy white marks if the excess product is not removed. Allow to dry by maintaining the warmth and ventilation for around 3-6 hours and then seal with two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear. Similar in colour to the Treatex Hardwax Oil, the Osmo Polyx-Oil - Satin-matt had a reasonably smooth finish beaten only by the Fiddes and Treatex finishes.

Both the vinegar and cup stain had left marks on the board, though these could potentially be removed with some further wash and care. Treatex Hardwax Oil is available in two key models. Whilst both possess different properties, they both achieve consistently fantastic results. Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra (Natural) As the only varnish to be tested it was always to be expected that the final finish would differ to the hard wax oils. Use a brush or roller to evenly apply the Treatex Exterior Oils, moving in the same direction as the wood grain. If possible apply the first coat to all sides of the wood before installation, paying particular attention to any end grain. Apply liberally on the end grain to fully seal. The finishes under test are: Treatex Hardwax Oil Traditional - Clear Satin, Blanchon Hard Waxoil - Natural, Osmo Polyx-Oil - Satin-matt, Fiddes Hard Wax Oil - Clear Satin and the Liberon Floor Varnish - Clear Satin.

With long-lasting protection against scratches, stains, and wear, hardwax oil is also resistant to water and household chemicals. Because of this, it is a good choice for use on kitchen countertops, tabletops, and other high-use areas. Enhances Natural Beauty

When Treatex Clear Hardwax Oil is applied on top of our Spruce Colour Tone it can have a slight yellowing effect on the colour. As a base coat for lighter timbers: If you want the ability to protect a light coloured timber whilst also preserving its natural colour as much as possible, Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Natural can be applied as a base coat under Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear to neutralise the warming effect. This product works best on unfinished timber. Exotic and pressure treated timbers should be allowed to weather for approximately 3 months before finishing. Previously porous finishes should be thoroughly cleaned or lightly sanded with all flaking and peeling removed before application. Ensure the surface is dry and free from any contaminants. Make sure you buy sufficient product to complete the whole project and mix multiple tins together before use to achieve the same finish. If you’re applying the Treatex Hardwax Oil over a Treatex Colour Tone or Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural then it’s important you have allowed the base coat to dry before application.

We provide everything you need to finish, maintain and clean your wooden surfaces, so you can enjoy them for years to come. All of the standard hard wax oils will turn an solid oak floor the honey colour which you described. If you are looking for a product that will not produce this honey colour, there are two products which we would recommend. After cleaning off the Liberon Floor Varnish, we once again found that there were no marks or stains left behind. We found that both of these finishes after two coats, left the board with a deep natural honey colour which was very attractive. The Fiddes Hardwax Oil was immediately the smoother of the two, but the Blanchon did eventually become smooth. Hardwax oil is made from natural oils and waxes and is low in VOCs, meaning that it represents an eco-friendly natural wood preserver choice. It is ideal for those who are concerned about the environment and want a sustainable wood finish for their home.
