Written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, this well-loved picture book provides the perfect opportunity to explore things on a bigger scale both indoors and out. Encourage the children to look closely at their findings as they work and to talk about what they see and notice. The original image is of the former Labour leader reading We’re Going on a Bear Hunt to some children. Introduce to children at the beginning of the week, send a copy home to share with parents, rehearse and chant throughout the week, waiting to go to lunch, for fun!The title had been superimposed on the Michael Rosen book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, which Corbyn was actually reading from, with Rosen describing the image as “loathsome and antisemitic”.

We’re going on a bear hunt is an award-winning classic, a timeless story and has been entertaining children for more than thirty years.Teachers and parents can use this story to inspire and to prompt discussions and lessons on environments, on language, and it can be used for drama and dramatic representations. It can turn feelings of fear into feelings of empathy, when the children realise the bear may have just wanted to make friends! The bear looks sad and I have always loved using this page to inspire discussion with children about how the bear might be feeling.
