Dawson is the New York Times-bestselling author of Star Wars: Phasma, Black Spire: Galaxy's Edge, and The Perfect Weapon. The saboteur turns out to be the Mycorea specialist Baucum, with whom Strasheim has developed a personal relationship.

Her writing includes The Atlas of Brutalist Architecture which won the New York Times Best Art Book of 2019, and she is currently writing Living in Nature (publishing 2021).

It's a slow build, but things do kick into high gear toward the end and I personally found the ending deliciously satisfying. The premise of it goes that the Earth is invaded by a foreign species of plants and they take over every crop, every field, every waterway or body of water, and poison the general surroundings. While there, they are surprised by the culture multiple times, but what shocks them most is that the asteroid's inhabitants have apparently discovered, through powerful telescopes, human life on both Earth and Venus, co-existing with the Mycora.

Plants - thick, black vine-like plants are sprouting out everywhere and rapidly taking over land and fields. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I also think Dawson showed a great sense for dialogue and character - crafting a convincing romance between Ro and Ash, all while foreshadowing the dark turn the story takes in its conclusion. I found Ro to be a relatable character, albeit one with boundary issues, though these are explained by her past experiences.

Because of their forced launch, the Pasteur docks at Saint Helier, a medium-sized Floral asteroid of the Gladholders to pick up supplies.

Kenneth Oppel has written a thriller so exciting that the pages might well have been printed with adrenaline. His stories have always captured me and I was so excited when I saw that he was coming out with another YA book. Nach der man vielleicht seinen Rasen etwas skeptisch betrachtet, kann ich euch Bloom ans Herz legen. Dawson’s storytelling when I read The Violence, but this newest book has solidified her place in my dark heart as a new favorite author.

Beginning with the brilliantly unique premise of a botanical alien invasion, the plot unravels satisfyingly, building readers' curiosity by creating 10 new questions for every answer given. Her only ambition is to win her school’s Most Obedient Child Competition, follow all the rules, and bring a smile to her unhappy mum’s face. She briefly wonders if eating the girls food is anything like Persephone slipping rose-red seeds between her lips in the Underworld. An elegantly written nightmare, Bloom will beguile unsuspecting readers before finally slicing deep and drawing blood. She is secretly a member of the Temples of Transcendent Evolution, and after being discovered, Baucum ruptures a storage bag inside herself that had been carrying spores of Mycora. It felt weirdly out of place and just unnecessary, even though I can understand (sort of) in the context of her navigating her newfound queer desires. I have read my fair share of horror and splatter punk books that have made me feel sick to my stomach and nothing much shocks me, but the ending of this story is truly revolting.
