Mortimer has been a regular guest panellist on the BBC1 quiz show Would I Lie to You? since 2012, having appeared in eleven episodes up to the 2022 series. He has since stated that his appearances on this show have given him more recognition than any of his previous work. In November 2013, Reeves and Mortimer filmed episodes of a new BBC sitcom, House of Fools, also featuring Matt Berry (as Beef), Morgana Robinson (as Julie), and Dan Skinner (as Bosh). On 29 December 2017, Mortimer and Reeves starred in a relaunch and new singular episode of their comedy Big Night Out for the BBC. The show has been remade and subsequently renamed to Vic and Bob's Big Night Out. The episode remained true to the classic Big Night Out formula and was composed of various comedy songs, skits, characters and sketches. This was the first time the Big Night Out series had featured Mortimer's name in the title. A full series of Vic and Bob's Big Night Out began on BBC Four in November 2018.

Here, our titular hero Demon Copperhead is born to a drug-addicted, teenage, trailer-park mother. He has to battle everyone and everything to make something of himself. But this is so much more than a clever literary exercise. It is the comedian’s first novel and is the subject of a murder mystery (Picture: Simon and Schuster) With his status as national treasure assured, Bob Mortimer can expect a lot of goodwill for his debut novel, an amiable crime thriller. I have always loved his work with Vic Reeves and so, when I saw this in the library, I grabbed it. A good decision. And Away... is a funny, heart warming and interesting read.

Pain, Andrew (10 August 2011). "Bob Mortimer on growing up on Teesside and North-east comedy". TeessideLive . Retrieved 11 February 2022. Bob Mortimer thanks the heart disease that almost killed him. He also thanks the "Hell's Angels farmer" he caught having sex with his girlfriend when he came home early from work one day. In short, he is a remarkable person even setting aside the comedy success.

Plot Sally Parker is the bored wife of an elaborately rich hedge fund manager. She has a full-time nanny, a chef and someone to groom her dogs. But when her husband suddenly goes bankrupt, all this is whipped away from her and she can start to find herself again. This debut novel comes from the comedian and former Bake Off co-host Mel Giedroyc, one half of Mel and Sue. This was so funny. Bob Mortimer has a gift for storytelling, weaving the most interesting stories of his life into a very relatable and honest account. From his childhood in Middlesbrough, we see him roam the streets with his friends, take on various jobs and eventually meet Jim Noir, a partnership that would ultimately change the course of his life. Some of the stories he tells are completely bonkers, from the pony watching TV in a living room to Mark Lemar falling through a ceiling and walking off. It's as chaotic and random as you would imagine from Bob. Mortimer has suffered from rheumatoid arthritis since childhood, which gives him great pain when he is stressed, especially before making a television series or embarking on a tour. On those occasions, he controls it with steroids. [32]Gary Thorn is a middle aged guy (who talks to squirrels) and finds himself in the middle of a missing co-worker mystery. The police are inquiring and a private investigator firm is also on his trail. He immediately falls for a mysterious woman at the bar and he all he has from her is this book called the Clementine Complex. Add in a bunch of nosy neighbors and an adorable judgy dog and you have this odd caper. I read this introduction to the novel in one sitting and despite there only being two chapters I laughed out loud a lot. In 2005, Mortimer hosted his first major TV series without Reeves, a comedy panel game for BBC One, called 29 Minutes of Fame, which featured regular guests such as Jo Brand. This above insight covers only two years of an influential comedy career that is still ongoing - will I ever laugh any harder at live comedy than the time that the seemingly natural response to smashing each other with increasing size foam frying pans was of course to bring on a giant cheese grater, with the necessary vicious up and down action and overdubbed sound effect? In one way I hope so to keep experiencing new things in life, but I somehow doubt it… Mortimer co-wrote the BBC Three sketch comedy Tittybangbang with Jill Parker. The programme starred Lucy Montgomery and Debbie Chazen, with Tony Way, and ran for three series between 2006 and 2007.

The conversations that Gary has with a squirrel in the park amused no end. The two lads supporting each other through the highs and not so highs of being a bloke today.Much loved comedian, actor and tv presenter Bob Mortimer, has now turned his talents to writing a mystery novel. Now just because he has a wonderful sense of humour and acting talents doesn’t automatically grace him with great literary abilities. What a fabulous book. A funny, quirky and compelling plot with so many great characters. Gary’s thought process and choice of words really made me laugh - it felt like stepping inside Bob Mortimer’s weird and wonderful mind. I also enjoyed hearing about his TV shows with Vic Reeves, especially when about the revamp of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), as it’s a family favourite. There was lots of silly stories off and on set and also some embarrassing ones too! This is an excellent read by one of the funniest men around. I have been looking forward to this one for sometime now and it was well worth waiting for. Strangely enough I don’t particularly like the comedy programmes he appears in with Vic Reeves but find him laugh out loud funny both in print and when he appears on ‘Would I Lie to you’ where he reminisces about his past.
