Aquatic animal communication: With the gift of the power of water, Malibu can communicate with aquatic animals whilst no other mermaid/merman can do. This is seen where she communicates with a narwhal. When Isla meets Brooklyn, she is fascinated by the idea of another human named Barbie and welcomes the both of them into Pacifica, where they encounter several other merfolk, including Finn and Aquaryah Aquavilla, Talleigha Fishtail, and Sareena Seasquid. Later, she attends the opening ceremony, where the contestants in the competition are welcomed by Coralia and told of the challenges that await them and the fact that no one in Pacifica will know who will earn the title of Power Keeper, regarded as the most powerful of all mermen and mermaids. Once the ceremony is over, Brooklyn suggests that they start practicing, but not before learning from Isla that mermen and mermaids are distrustful of any strangers, which explains why Talleigha, Sareena, and Finn have berated her and the Roberts sisters. At the competition the next day, Malibu does not get off to a good start, so Brooklyn volunteers her aid. As the events progress, Malibu does manage to fare better, though, but then, Viva the vaquita arrives and reveals, thanks to translations from the newly awakened Water mermaid Sareena, that Aquaryah has been kidnapped. For unknown reasons, Malibu also understands Viva and discovers that Chelsea has also been kidnapped. But then, Coralia reveals an emergency that requires Pacifica's immediate attention and all mermen and mermaids with powers to take care of. As Brooklyn, Stacie, and Skipper leave with the merpeople, Malibu follows Viva as they head out to rescue Aquaryah and Chelsea. Malibu is a kind, friendly and outgoing girl who is the oldest of the sisters. She is helpful as much as possible, whether it is helping clean the ocean of trash or helping out a mermaid city. She can occasionally be insecure, feeling like she isn't as strong as the others, but she is still determined to do her best no matter what. Malibu is intelligent and smart even if she can be a bit ditsy. She is the most level-headed and grounded of the sisters, and a natural leader.

Her hair is a vivid cerulean blue. Her tail ombres from blue-violet to light blue. She wears a pink top, complete with a pink sash worn as a belt around her tail. And that is Barbie: Mermaid Power. It's a movie that goes above and beyond. It manages to get pretty epic, but they reinforce the character conflicts to help make it all work. Malibu tries to convince Marlo that there is more to being a mermaid than she knows, and pleads with Marlo to help free her as Marlo is trying to retrieve a tiara lodged near a wall. Once she retrieves the tiara, Marlo is reminded of her grandmother's words regarding the tiara and places it on Malibu's head, fully awakening Malibu's Water powers and allowing her to free herself and blast them an exit out of Marlo's vessel. Malibu and Marlo then meet up with the other merpeople at the island of trash. When they arrive, they are later joined by Chelsea and Aquaryah, who escaped from Marlo's grasp earlier. At a science academy, Marlo (also returning from Dolphin Magic) tried but failed miserably to convince its attendants to buy into her proof of worth that the myth surrounding mermaids is true with some verbally doubting her credentials and their leader, Dr. Amy Tang, going on to verbally revoke her institution's funding to Marlo to further her "frivolous fairy-tale witch-hunt" research as she put it. The sweet, funny, and clever youngest sister, Chelsea is very girly and cute, but rather clever and smart for her age, and also a bit sarcastic. Like Stacie, she is outgoing and makes friends easily. As a typical seven-year-old, her obsession with mermaids is why she insisted on becoming one with Malibu and Brooklyn and did not want to miss out. As Malibu and Brooklyn are engaged in their practice session, Brooklyn tries to console Malibu about being unable to summon any power, when Aquaryah offers to teach them how to summon power. As Brooklyn is training with Aquaryah, she begins to develop Fire powers, but finds she has no control over them. Just then, Finn arrives and attempts to dissuade his sister from helping Brooklyn and Malibu, but Aquaryah argues that she is capable of handling herself. On this note, as Brooklyn watches, Skipper's rage gets the better of her and she awakens Air powers, using them on Finn and being congratulated by Aquaryah for her discovery.
