So, it also seems HIFIMAN took the same direction with the new Edition XS which at present is their lowest-price asymmetrical cup design headphone and a remake of Edition X that to the benefit of the buyer seems to employ both concept patterns mentioned above.

Build/Features

These pads are large, angled, oval, Hybrid type and are very comfortable. I would say almost unbeatable in the comfort category. Actually, these pads look very similar to the HIFIMAN Ultra pads and perhaps their only difference might be the foam that was used inside. Now we will return to Italy – a few hundred years in the past! Toccata IV in A Minor: I. Arpeggio, is an instrumental composed by Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725). This recent recording features Philippe Grisvard on harpsichord. Both the Sundara and the Edition XS are excellent choices if you’re in the market for planar magnetic cans. Both perform beyond their price points. For the bulk of my Edition XS testing, I used the new iFi xDSD Gryphon, which really impressed me when I did my review. I think it’s the best-sounding portable amp they’ve ever made, and I knew its detail and depth would really show me what these headphones are capable of. The company has had a few failures along the way; specifically when it deviated from its core designs, but it is a company that sells a lot of high-end headphones.

I have to give Hifiman kudos for providing an affordable headphone that’s technically competent but slightly breaks out of the neutral trend they have followed for some time now. The slight bump in the midbass allows the XS to sound good on less traditional audiophile material, but still, fall in line when you want to listen to a well-recorded jazz piece. The Wrap Up The padding is comfortable enough so regardless I have no complaints when it comes to comfort. I could wear these all day long. All planar magnetic headphones rely on a magnetic field around the charged diaphragm to cause the diaphragm to move. Changing the current flowing through the diaphragm changes the degree to which it is attracted or repulsed by the magnets. The magnets used within the XS headphones are Stealth magnets which are engineered to be a special shape and enable the waves to pass through the magnet without generating interference. The magnets have been designed to be acoustically transparent, which creates dramatically reduced wave diffraction turbulence that would otherwise degrade the soundwaves generated by the XS. The reduction in distortion means that the XS outputs pure sonics thats are accurate and full range. NEO “Super Nano” Diaphragm (NsD)I do like the new adjustment design better than that older model and found that it is less prone to breakage. The lower midrange is quite linear sounding and I found the balance between the bass and midrange to be quite even with a few caveats; the midrange is definitely a little warmer than neutral but it helps give vocals a nice tonality and acoustic guitar is presented with rather natural sounding timbre.

HIFIMAN's advanced magnet design is acoustically transparent, dramatically reducing wave diffraction turbulence that degrades the integrity of the sound waves. The reduced distortion yields pure sonic output that is accurate and full-range. The Hifiman Edition XS headphones have a soundstage that is almost as extensive as the kings of soundstage in this class, the Beyerdynamic DT 1990.The midrange response is very behaved, balanced, rarely strays from smoothness, and has a pretty accurate tonality only surpassed by some of their higher-tier headphones. The midrange is somewhat warm, wide, and large sounding but intimate all at once. The overall frequency response of the Edition XS headphones is mostly neutral. The response of the Edition XS headphones is similar to the Hifiman Sundara, but not as flat. Hifiman has expertise in designing and developing planar magnetic headphones. They have multiple successful products which benefit from planar magnetic drivers. The latest Edition XS uses a newly developed planar magnetic driver with an ultra-thin diaphragm coil known as Neo ultra-thin diaphragm. This driver has an impressively fast response resulting in a highly-detailed sound with lower distortion. The Stealth Magnet tech is used in conjunction with Hifiman’s NEO supernano Diaphragm, an ultra-thin diaphragm that (I believe) was first used in the Sundara. It’s said to be 75%-80% thinner than the completion, allowing for enhanced separation and detail especially in terms of imaging.

This might seem rather funny to some but I prefer the new style boxes that are simple and not so fancy. When I get a product in a very fancy box it makes me wonder how much of the product cost I just spent into paying for the box which will most likely stay in a closet forever. Meet the all-new Edition XS from the house of Hifiman. Coming as a successor to the award-winning Hifiman Edition X, the latest Edition XS features all-new Neo Ultra-Thin Diaphragm and Stealth magnetic technologies. The Edition XS is tuned for exceptional performance with high-resolution clarity and detail. The pair also has a new headband for better comfort and durability. The improved earcup design and warmer top make the Edition XS nicer for hi-fi listening. The more neutral frequency response of the Sundara makes them a more obvious choice for critical listening.Connectivity is seamless with the included detachable cable featuring high-quality gold plated connectors. The Edition XS is also designed to be efficient with a low impedance, making it compatible with a wide range of audio sources, from portable devices to high-end audio systems. With its combination of state-of-the-art technology, comfort-centric design, and versatile connectivity, the HifiMan Edition XS stands as a testament to HifiMan's commitment to delivering an unparalleled audio experience for enthusiasts and music lovers alike. Headphones: Best Price U.K. Corner a group of Head-Fi community members at a local meet or event like CanJam NYC 2022 that just took place and more than a handful will suggest that the HiFiMAN Susvara are the best headphones currently available. For example, the fanfare of a brass section on a live opera recording sounds more like plate reverb than an actual opera house. Hifiman Edition XS VS Sundara
