It's then just a 10-minute walk to the charming outdoor Shoalstone Pool, a popular bathing spot since Victorian times. There are quizzes and puzzles for children to do, so bring paper and pencils. 22) Exeter City Wall Trail

Don't forget to take your camera – and keep an eye open for wildlife such as buzzards, otters, kingfishers, dolphins, seals and basking sharks. Along the way you’ll pass through some charming villages, so be sure to stop off and take in the local sights and sounds. Along the route, you’ll journey through quaint villages, winding paths, and lush forests, giving you a unique insight into the natural beauty of the area. A walk up "mini mountain" Potters Hill and beyond will reward you with stunning views across the bay towards Baggy Point and Morte Point. It's just a stone's throw from the beach, but you'll feel a million miles away from the crowds. Branscombe is a beautiful coastal village with stunning views, while Queen’s Drive to Sand Bay is perfect for a peaceful stroll. As you traverse the last mile of the trail, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the North Devon coastline. With breathtaking views of Lyme Bay and the rolling hills beyond, this is a walk that will delight all the senses. With its tranquil atmosphere and stunning scenery, Mutters Moor will no doubt leave you feeling relaxed and revitalized after your walk. 8. Otterton Mill River Walk

Take an autumn walk from Castle Drogo through Piddledown Common and Fingle Wood a see one of England’s largest woodland restoration projects. Along this route, you’ll find plenty of traditional pubs and tea rooms for refreshment breaks during your walk. A walk by the sea is medicine for the soul. Even if we live close to the coast, we can’t help but seek a glimpse of the big blue on the horizon, over the hills and beyond the rooftops of farmer’s fields. Drawing us to the edge of the land, it’s magnetic. This is why we head to Devon as, like its neighbour Cornwall, the immediacy of the sea is apparent everywhere you look. Walks that start in adjacent counties or areas but cross the boundary and include sections of the route within Devon. Walk Lee Bay is renowned for the fuchsia hedges around its cottage gardens, and its secluded beach used to be the perfect place for smugglers to land their contraband. 47) Hartland to Spekes Mill Mouth and Waterfall

The route

Devised by a keen Dartmoor walker and founder member of the Dartmoor Rescue Group, this walk was planned as an easy introduction to the area’s attractions. This walk follows the quaint fishing harbour in Paignton, past the fish merchants and down onto Fairy Cove, a secluded crescent-shaped beach with red sand and shingle. Take the steps up from the middle of the beach and head towards the delightful gardens at Roundham, which offer breathtaking views across Lyme Bay to Portland, Dorset. The path starts off with a gradual incline, giving you a chance to take in the views across the Jurassic Coastline and out to sea. Just off the coast of Devon lies Braunton Burrows, an expanse of sand dunes that make up the UK’s largest sand dune system. As you progress along the path, you’ll pass the picturesque villages of Georgeham and Braunton. Then, you’ll arrive at Saunton Sands. Here, you’ll be welcomed by the stunning three-mile long beach that’s perfect for a refreshing swim or a picnic.

Along the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views across the rolling hills of East Devon and some truly stunning scenery.

Torcross to Slapton Sands
