But when a stampede of animals runs from the lake Julius finds himself alone, with a very annoying warthog, and together they have to escape both a lion and the Romans who are after them. demi-god Heracles promises Julius and his chums a great reward if they can help him to find the lost Golden Apple.

Transported to the ferocious clamor of the Colosseum; Julius Zebra and his motley menagerie of friends must gear up to be . With a guide to Roman numerals and a fun, factual glossary in the back pages, this is a fast-paced, funny and utterly bonkers introduction to all things Roman Britain. It was a fantastic opportunity for me to read this book which has taught me not to waste my opportunities. In a story typical of many children's books, a main character doesn't quite fit in with his family and tries to get away by himself. On a visit to the Tomb of Cleopatra, Felix is unable to resist a rather lovely looking treasure for his rock collection… He pockets the jewel and immediately a curse falls upon the group. My favourite character was Milus the Lion who was Julius's friend as he was very funny in the story. Páčilo sa mi, že kniha veľmi nenásilne, a pre deti aj pútavo, vysvetľovala niektoré skutočnosti Ríma.

It's perfect for 6 to 8 year olds, and especially for those fascinated by the Romans as there are plenty of snippets of history to be picked up while enjoying the story. The Roman terminology - though education and doable for English speakers - was very difficult to even try to explain to new English speakers. My favourite character is Brutus as he is really funny and at one part of the story he found some old smelly seaweed and used it as a wig.

Julius Zebra Rumble with the Romans’ is the first book in the Julius Zebra series with the second and third books being ‘Bundle with the Britons’ and ‘Entangled with the Egyptians’. As it turns out the threat is a Roman battalion collecting animals to provide entertainment at gladiator bouts. I really liked studying about Romans and other parts of history and this book made me want to learn even more. I loved how the author really got into the mind of the gladiator slaves and how the events that happened during the gladiators’ training sounded real. Julius and his friends are shipwrecked and wash up on the shores of Egypt where, thanks to a series of happy coincidences, and to the disgust of his stupid brother Brutus, Julius is proclaimed a god.
