I think that Julius Zebra is a very funny book full of comedy. Another very good thing about it is that it includes a lot history, like how the Britons would fight the Romans in a battlefield. It relates to real life as well because the Romans had the Coliseum to fight in with different gladiators. The book makes you actually feel like you’re the zebra going up to fight against the Britons. My favourite part was when the Romans where on a holiday on a cruise ship and they want to escape, so they come up with a master plan of dressing up like fish and diving into the ocean. This overall was a really great book it was full of emotions and really was a great book. During a visit to the stinky lake he wanders off and is followed by Cornelius, a know-it-all, chatterbox warthog who he finds quite annoying. They fall into what they think is a sinkhole, where they find a grumpy, old lion called Milus. I really enjoyed this book because it was really interesting and creative. I also liked this book because teaches children about the Romans and how they lived in Roman times. I really liked studying about Romans and other parts of history and this book made me want to learn even more. My favourite character in the book is Lucia, she is extremely brave, she even tried to escape Septimus with her friends, although sadly it failed.

I hope to read more books by this author and I hope they’re as funny as this one. I have some questions for Gary Northfield: I just adored the expressions on the animals (and humans). They were so silly and over the top. Especially Julius had some fabulous expression ranging from demented to crazy to something that should pass as normal.Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical Moments What happens when you mix the gladiatorial combat of ancient Rome with a fast-talking creature who is DEFINITELY NOT A STRIPY HORSE?

Completely ridiculous plot line and zany characters are highly entertaining and somehow manage to combine daft antics with historical facts. Great! WRD He decides he is going home on his own, despite the warnings of being alone from an annoying know-it-all warthog that sees him. Suddenly they are both caught up in a stampede. There is a stalking lion nearby. Julius and the warthog escape up a hill, only to fall into a deep dark pit – with the lion! Class 3H from Carr Junior School in York have read and reviewed Julius Zebra: Rumble with the Romans by Gary Northfield. The book is published by Walker Books. It tells the story of a zebra called Julius who is captured by Romans from his home in the heart of the Serengeti in Africa and taken to fight against gladiators in the famous Colosseum in ancient Rome. Most of the book had accurate history because the country Britain did used to be spelt as Britannia and I know that was true because I learnt about it in class. I loved this book as it was quite silly and in-formal. I loved how the author really got into the mind of the gladiator slaves and how the events that happened during the gladiators’ training sounded real. The history in this book was realistic, yet it wasn’t. It sounded like it was realistic but events happened that weren’t. This book definitely made me curious about history.

I would recommend this book to children the same age as me so that they can learn about Romans and become interested in them like me.

My favourite characters are Brutus and Julius because both are extremely funny. You will love them! In conclusion, I think this book is an enjoyable read and a great story. Some of the characters personalities are so unusual that it makes the story ten times better. I think young children could read this book as it is quite easy and contains lots of pictures. I think the history wasn't very realistic because only very few parts were true, but it did make me want to find out more about what actually happened and I wanted to read more by this author; he is so funny! I found parts of this book hard to follow so I think it could be for 10 years and over. It was funny in places but may be it wasn't my sense of humour. I liked the part about Brutus when he got seaweed as a wig. There were some interesting characters but really too many of them. Welcome to the world of Julius Zebra. He is a cranky teenage zebra heading for the waterhole with his mom and friends, just like all of us, when out the blue a lion comes and shouts for all to head for the hills due to an unknown threat. As it turns out the threat is a Roman battalion collecting animals to provide entertainment at gladiator bouts. From there to a cliff-hanging end of the book, Julius and his friends do their best to please Emperor Hadrian and survive run-ins with the gladiators.

It's also a fun read, so it didn't feel as embarrassing as being an adult reading a children's book normally feels to me. I think this book is funny because it keeps saying ‘bottom’ (he he!) My fave part is when Julius gets plopped on the Colosseum sand. (Freya, 8) Julius is a zebra (not Debra, ZEBRA). Spoiled, kind a stupid and speaks-before-he-thinks but gets pretty pissed off when somebody mistakes him for a horse. 🦓🦓🦓😀🐴🐴🐴This is not intended to be a full statement of all your rights under the Distance Selling Regulations.
