Looking at the competition in a similar price range, Canon has the EOS R6 that shoots 20.1-megapixel photos, has 1,053 phase-detect autofocus points over Sony’s 759, and autofocus sensitivity down to -6.5 EV over the Sony’s -5 EV. It can even record 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 video internally, too. I am happy that camera development has slowed down to the point that one can buy and use a camera for several years, without getting behind in image quality. I prefer to spend money on lenses, not on bodies. 15 years ago, buying a new body every two years was more or less mandatory due to improvements in AF, low light capacity, color, resolution, general speed and image quality. I missed the long term steadiness of my F100 or F3, with all the muscle memory built up over time using the cameras for years.

IV vs A7 III: the 12 key differences | Digital Camera Sony A7 IV vs A7 III: the 12 key differences | Digital Camera

Second we constantly see how they are moving to the "high margin products" but mas produced 135 format cameras are much more low margin products, and top models are far away from high margin products! So second free market nonsense repeated here! They arrive at the dots number by taking the H x V resolution, and then multiplying that number by 3, to account for the green, red, and blue subpixels. So a lowly 800x600 screen would be rated as 1.44 million dots. Sounds a lot more impressive, right?Reliability I think is the key word when it comes to describing the Alpha 7 IV. Its ability to hold a subject in AF-C might be one of the best experiences I’ve had with a Sony camera. It is an achievement for those who need that type of battery life out in the field, and want the super durable unibody pro style design with integrated battery grip.

Sony a7 IV review - Digital Photography Review

More useful to more people is likely to be the 'Focus Map' view, which gives a simple, color-coded impression of how much depth-of-field your currently-chosen aperture is giving. Given the choice, we'd prefer the addition of either waveforms or false color displays to make it easier to optimize exposure (particularly when shooting Log footage), but it's certainly a useful addition. Video Stabilization The a7 IV uses the same NP-FZ100 battery as the a7 III and other more recent Sony cameras. It's a usefully hefty unit that, combined with the relatively modest viewfinder res, lets the a7 IV achieve a CIPA battery life rating of 580 shots per charge using the rear screen and 520 shots per charge using the EVF. Much has changed in the eight years since the original a7 was launched: with Sony now far from alone in offering a modern full-frame mirrorless camera. Technology has made huge leaps forward, too, with autofocus, in particular, improving in terms of speed, sophistication and simplicity, to the point that no one would now suggest DSLRs retain the upper hand. The still image quality is quite superb. If you want better than this you'll need to step up to a 40-60MP camera, and you won't get the A7 IV's video features if you do. Quite apart from the outright resolution, the A7 IV produces excellent color rendition in its JPEGs. Sony says its color rendition is improved over that of the A7 III, and while these things are hard to measure scientifically, the A7 IV’s JPEGs do look very good indeed. If you shoot video with this camera all the time, you’ll soon have it eating out of the palm of your hand, but if you’re a once-a-month video dabbler, you’re going to have to put some time in learning exactly what’s what, and where it is.

Does not really matters what I think! Apple sell well, ILCs not so well. There should be something right? it could not be in the vendors, reason should be in the market right? :D

Note that you'll need to turn off Raw capture then select HEIF files, then engage 'HLG Still Image' mode if you want this to work. Simply shooting HEIF files and using the HLG picture profile won't work. Sadly you can't shoot Raw and HEIF, and there's no in-camera Raw conversion option to generate an HLG HEIF from any Raws you've shot. You can ask same question in regards to Z5 or S5 though. Z5 sensor is not worse vs Z6! So if we skip video why do we need Z6 at all?Other positive changes I noted regarding continuous shooting that has only more recently been fixed in the latest Sony cameras includes the ability to move the spot focus point as the shutter button is held down, and crop mode can be switched when the camera is clearing the buffer. Autofocus Muskokaphotog - "The camera can capture great video and stills, you just won't see it looking through the lousy viewfinder. No image ever looks in focus because of the low res EVF" The camera market is and has been shrinking dramatically, due to the smartphone taking over as primary camera for most people. Nowhere I am saying everything could be done with smartphones! I am talking about market and different kinds of products.

For our lab data comparison, we compared the Sony a7 IV to its main full-frame mirrorless rival cameras at a similar price point: the Canon EOS R6, Nikon Z6 II, and Panasonic Lumix S5. Wait, so resolution is related to screen brightness? I had no idea! But that's a useful piece of information if true, and it would help explain the screen situation. Matt Granger: Nikon shooter, too biased. Even though at one time he left Nikon, has used other gear, and has also been a frequent critic. Nikon also does this differentiating body style for their Z9 mirrorless, and of course for their D(n) series pro models. The crop factors are another thing. If you want to shoot 4K 60p, the camera switches to a Super35 crop (roughly APS-C) to do it, and – annoyingly – it also crops in when you switch from regular video mode to the S&Q mode. So you can't just switch over to grab a bit of fast or slow-motion footage because your framing will change. Ultimately, you could just switch to Super35 mode from the outset to avoid these mid-shoot crop changes, but then you lose the advantage of full-width capture. To refuse that would not be taking any principled stand on any issue of importance. It would just be foolish. Video is similarly impressive, with a host of tools to support high-quality video capture. While video industry-standard features such as waveforms are absent, the a7 IV makes solo shooting easier by extending its impressive AF capabilities to video mode. Only the slightly jerky stabilization counts against what is otherwise a very powerful camera. Cont'd. So when you analyze the camera market, you have to realize that those low end models are also competing against smartphones, and they don't win out at any price. video vs photo: all you are doing is advocating for the horse and buggy makers to offer a cheaper yet faster version to compete against cars. Not going to happen. I have shot thousands of pictures side by side. There’s an more example here (I have posted many already in different threads). Jpg sooc.
